Six days into the firearm DROS waiting period, my FFL informed me it’s delayed. I had bought some ammo two days into the waiting period. Everything went fine. Can anyone tell me if the firearm and ammo background checks are the same? Is the firearm background check more involved?Last edited by aolis110; 06-18-2022, 1:39 PM.Comment

A basic background check is the same as a DROS.
A standard background check is not - they just look for a matching AFS/gun registered in your name/address.UG Imports - Fremont, CA FFL - Transfers, New Gun Sales

Doesn’t Texas have instant background check for those without CCW? I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t. Why a wait?Yes. That is what my FFL a tells me if ATF doesn’t call within the 3 days you can come back in and you are GTG.
I still haven’t gotten my LTC a in Texas (I know, I know) so I get hit with delays all the time (I only got one instant proceed so far) after 3 days your FFL can release if nothing comes back (mine will). I usually get delayed for like 30 minutes every time then ATF calls right back with a proceed. At this point I know to not even bother driving home I just hang out and wait! LOL!
Even though you don’t technically need a LTC to carry anymore in TX it can still be purchased just to never get delayed. My FFL always tells me to get one every time I get delayed!Comment

Texas is one of most states that have no system in place for BG checks or waiting periods.
But FFLs there still have to comply with the Fed requirement of BG check. Which is a call to FBI, who check NCIC. Usual reply is in minutes. But if it goes past 3 days, FFL is authorized to release.
Like our own Crap O fornica based, 30 day "undetermined status" is supposed to be.Comment

^^^ Correct, like I said even I though I constantly get hit with “delayed” they usually call back within 15-30 minutes with a “proceed”. Last time I just hung out at my FFL (Pawn Shop) and shot the crap for a while and then the call came in to proceed and I joked I knew I shouldn’t even bother driving back home. The plot thickens, it's a multiple piece PPT. Out of all of the pieces it is a single gun that is delayed and not the whole transaction. When I talked to seller about it, turns out they had a delay on the same gun that went undetermined. Anybody have experience or knowledge on this situation?Comment

I have no knowledge of your situation, but it doesn't surprise me. The problem for you will be:The plot thickens, it's a multiple piece PPT. 1) if the delay turns to undetermined you can't pick it up until after 30 days
2) if you don't pick up the other stuff until #1 is done, you'll have to reDROS because it will be after those all expire
Not sure if your FFL will split your pickups onto separate 4473s or you can hope the delay turns to approval within your original 30 day window.UG Imports - Fremont, CA FFL - Transfers, New Gun Sales

1. Ya that's probably how this will go. Seems to be something up with that particular gun.
2. Interesting I was not aware of that, so it is 30 days from the day you start the DROS than you have to re-DROS?
Pretty sure we will have to do it on 2 pick ups, but have agreed to wait a couple days to see if this one clears first.Comment

Yes, your DROS expires just after 720 hours from when you ran it. After that you have to re-DROS (with some exceptions such as a delay).Had active comms with FFL,
