Recommend a Pistol Range in the OC

I will likely be taking my son shooting in the next week and wonder if we should try some new ranges. I used to go to On Target, ocassionally to Evans Gun World, and sometimes to Prado in Chino Hills. Perhaps some have a recommendation of a new place to try. I used to use the OCSD range until it was closed to the public.

One thing I want to stay away from is any range with poor supervision. Too many wannabe cowboys with poor muzzle control.

As for Evans, I haven't been there for a while and only used to go there because a buddy really liked the place. I thought it sub par at best. Has it been fixed up in the last couple of years?

If you think Evan’s is subpar you won’t like OC Indoor Range. Just sayin…

On Target has been remodelled and the showroom expanded in the last couple years but the range is the same.

Firing Line in HB is ok but I don’t have a problem with any of the above.

Not OC but worth the drive. Raahauges.
You can rent a private bay and not worry about others. They have a shooting gallery, which is a bunch of steel targets. They have a hopper pass for a slight discount to do both...
Also, sporting clays if you are into that. A couple practice booths if you dont want to do a full course.

Ah, Raahauges. I have only been there once, but I was new to shotguns and they took great care of me. One of the guys set me up in a closed area and took a lot of time showing me how to use a Remington 870, and I don't mean wing shooting. No lesson charge, just paid for a target and a bay. I think I have been to its annual sports fair a couple of time. I would have gotten one of the better Berettas on the spot if the guy demoing them didn't act like I was on the dole. That was a decade after I was intoduced to the good old 870.

I was tempted to drive out to OC Indoor, but scratch it. I may do Evans, even though I find it a bit run down, as I lost touch with a skeet partner who liked Evans. I have been thinking of dropping in on Evans to see if he is still above ground, though it is a little rough around the edges. Nothing wrong with the staff, though parking stinks.

Although it's outside of Orange County, Raahauge’s is pretty good. It's outdoors and you get your own private bay (around 30 yards or so). Downside it's a bit pricy, around $30 per person IIRC.
IIRC On Target has no ammo restrictions (steel case), but you have to take a class before you can shoot rifles.

The only indoor range in OC that doesn't seem sketchy to me is FT3. The others I've been to tend to have too many newbs/muzzle sweepers for my liking.

Firing line is good but I usually go weekdays before 5pm. I try to get there every couple of weeks.

Like others, I recommend FT3. Their rules are strict, the staff enforce the rules and I feel very safe from knuckleheads when I shoot there due to the strict enforcement.

Last time I was there was 5 years ago, I brought my sight press to zero some newly installed sights. The staff member on the range was cool, he was spotting for me so I could finish zeroing faster, which allowed me to use more of my 1 hour of range time to shoot.
