CA DOJ considers that stock telescoping because it is adjustable for length of pull.

So that fin grip alone will not save you from AW bust. You need to pin that buttpad in place somehow

Factory Springfield mags have worked great.

My prior experience with Pro Mags kept me away from trying one in my M1A

The Chinese and USGI mags work well

Thanks for all the responses. I have been looking at pretty much all the brands mentioned. Some are obviously a little more expensive than others. Some have better reviews than others but I like what you guys have been throwing my way, appreciate it.

As for the rifle itself. I have no knowledge of who did the custom job on it other than the original owner. I found it used so no knowledge of round count other than the store said it has a low round count of less than a thousand rounds but as clean as it is, I don't think maybe more than a few hundred rounds have been through it. Will use my bore scope to check out the rifling, should of took it with me. The stock I believe may be pinned, it didn't move at all, no wiggle movement at all for the person who asked about it to save from a AW bust. Thanks for noting that by the way...

From my perspective, the rifle is so clean you could eat your food off of it. I inspected it as best as I could as again, not very familiar with the M1A platform. The store did say it is off of the M1A Loaded platform as per the original owner. Anything more than that...well I went with my gut instincts on it.

Yes it is really heavy, got a Atlas bipod on order but they're backordered so will just barrow a Harris from one of my other AR-10 rifles to take it out. Other than that, much appreciated for all the input. Oh, and yes I will definitely change that scope mount around.

              Have a great day everyone...

If it is adjustable, apparently under ca infringements, it’s an illegal assault rifle, and you absolutely could go to jail for that. You said yourself you “believe it may be pinned”. Skyhawk was telling you that you need to make damned sure it is. That is all.

Agree 100% with everyone else, Checkmate and S/A mags only for me. I’m not in ca so all mine are non blocked 20 rounders.

Lastly, do a quick youtube search on how to properly lubricate your bolt roller with grease. One of my m1a’s finally had a bolt roller retaining clip break after quite a few years of improperly lubricating my bolt roller.

Get a proper gas plug wrench and a gas lock wrench. Springfield armory used to sell them. Probably still do, haven’t looked. Also Fulton armory would have them if s/a doesn’t.

                    Good luck.
O/P, heed what you're being told here. When I registered my AR-10 BB Rifle, DOJ kicked back my application because I needed to check off the telescoping stock feature with that exact same stock.

I believe it's BS, but it is what it is.

I own two M1-A's. Personally, I'd ditch that stock and get a nice G.I. one, but I'm sure you paid a pretty penny for it as is.

And yes, CMI mags are the way to go.

M1A's are great in CA because they're already featureless, they have a long sight radius for the iron sights, and they're relatively light & handy for a .308. Oh wait, never mind.

Ok, snark aside, a M1A makes a nice complement to a .308 AR because it has advantages over that. But this setup negates all those advantages and tries to compete as a .308 AR with a lot of compromises. It's your money and your gun, and if you like it that's the final word. And I'll admit the gun is good enough such that even with all those add-ons it's still a fun gun to shoot.

Checkmate magazines are my preferred magazines. I have an abundance of 10-round Checkmate magazines. If you need any send me a PM.

I had Egyptian ones many years ago. They were packed with about four pounds of cosmoline. Worked great after I cleaned them out.

Checkmate, or USGI, only. Some Checkmates don't lock in easy with some Polytechs, but that shouldn't be a problem for you. Due to their "rock into place" mode of insertion, some 10 rd mags are a little more difficult to lock into place than standard 20 rd mags..

I have several M14s, and I am not a great fan of the M14 flip up butt plate. Dupage Trading was selling some early style aftermarket M14 stocks, probably made by Boyds), that feature a Garand style butt plate. Which I really like. I now have 2. Shortens length of pull by about 1/2", and takes a few ounces off the rear of the rifle. Unfortunately, the last time I checked, Dupage had sold out. But, they are good sellers, so I expect them to get more of them. Cost was $170 with metal. I have mine installed with wooden hand guards. Gives them a different look.
