Why did Colt stop making the "snake" guns?

Any Colt fans want to school me on why the snake guns are no longer made? Python, Anaconda, Diamondback. They are beautiful but are now worth a king's ransom

The decision was made to cease production of them in the late-90s, when the management at Colt made the decision to get out of civilian sales.

Early-2000, new management took over and reversed decision to get out of civilian sales. But, machinery/tooling for the Colt revolvers had already been sold off or converted to other use.

I didn't know they made this decision. In light of what we now know, what a dumb one that was. Sad to hear though. I guess at that time they felt it was politically expedient to do so.

So can't they make new tooling and/or buy new, better machinery? Sounds like they're simply unwilling to make the investment.

During the mid/late-90s, Colt and S&W were owned by companies that were anti-gun and made deals with the Clinton Administration to support anti-gun legislation in order to get favorable government contracts.


The last revolver Colt was making was called the Survivor and based off the Colt Magnum Carry frame.
The Colt Survivor was Colt's take on the Phillips & Rogers Model 47 Medusa, a .355 caliber revolver that could use 18 different cartridges (such as .32ACP, .32Magnum, .380ACP, 9x19mm, .357Magnum) due to it's unique extractor design that did not require moonclips.

I've heard that there wasn't much profit in it for them so they got out.
