    Liberty safe electronic key pad

Hey fellas, I'm in need of another safe, looking at a Liberty safe.

I'm a little worried about the locking system. My safe has a S&G dial lock, 25+ years and not a single problem.

What say you about these push button locks?

If I'm not happy with it, can it be swapped out for a dial lock?

    Thank you

Yes, it can be swapped out to a dial. When I bought mine years ago I went from a dial to a keypad.
May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I am

Had a dial for years and went to keypad. Just change battery once a year and use Duracell

I never thought about that. I have a couple flash lights and pair of glasses on top of mine so I can see. I usually have it open when I'm home but my grandkids moved in a couple weeks ago. Good stuff, thank you.

A local gun shop outfitted its operation with a half dozen Liberty safes. Since they were in and out of them hundreds of times a day, they used touch pad locks. Never had a problem.

My 1st Liberty was about 15 years ago. Manual S&G dial which was pretty and shiny and really cool looking...until I had to see the dang numbers on the glaring chrome dial or wanted to open the thing at night.

Last year got a 2d Liberty with the touch combo and light kit. I liked the touch combo so much I had them pull the S&G off the old safe and upgrade the mechanism with the key pad.

Been great ever since. I finally tossed the S&G dial.

There are a couple companies out there that make an aftermarket combo lock, that has both an electronic keypad and manual dial combined. You can use either method to open and close the safe. That way you can still get your safe open if an EMP hits or the electronic lock simply malfunctions. IIRC, both get excellent reviews.

I'll have to take a look at that.

I have 2 liberty safe with electronic key pad for 8 years. In and out of the safe like 3-4 times a day in past 8 years. no issues. Changed the battery only several times in past 8 years.

I don't want to find out at the worst possible moment that the electronic lock might not survive and EMP attack. I ordered my newest Liberty safe with the S&G lock that my other Liberty safe has. It may be a little slower - but it's always worked.

They make a small red LED light that is magnetic to stick on just above the dial.

Bought my Liberty Safe with electronic lock back in 2005 I believe. Never had an issue. I replace the batteries every New Years Day.

Just bought a second Liberty Safe with an electronic lock. This has a different brand of lock. Whats nice about the new one is it has a red LED light that lights up the key pad.

Keypad locks are convenient until they are not. EMP, SHTF no batteries available. Dials for me.

I own a Liberty with keypad. Had a fire, keypad melted. The combo and such is stored inside the door, only the keypad is on the outside. T&T Liberty safe in Bakersfield came and replaced the keypad in about 5 seconds. I put in my combo and bing! It opened.

My insurance company did not pay for the safe so Liberty Safe Corporate replaced it for free . . . and I got to keep the old safe!

Also, the fire was quick and over in about 15 minutes. Everything inside the safe survived just fine. Only a little water got in and a couple butt plates were a little rusty (darn that fire department and the water they brought).

                            I'm sold on Liberty!

I used to have a Sargent & Greenleaf dial combo lock that worked fine for about 12 years, then the numbers started to drift. Instead of “8”, I’d have to dial “8.25”, then soon, “8.5”. It was very frustrating. It often refuses to open until we try dialing it 3 to 5 times. So I went to Amazon and picked up a new S&G keypad and it has been trouble free since.
