There is no state income tax. That is great if you are still in the work force. But, if you are retired, you do not benefit.

Many houses in the Ft. Worth area are $550K+. That is about $1500 a month taxes!!!! That is more than I pay for my mortgage in Mission Viejo.

If you have retirement income e.g. capital gains that is still tax free. I ran the numbers, property taxes is offset by no taxes and lower cost of living compared to living in CA. Not to mention it being a free State etc..

.88% real estate tax here in Wake county NC. I pay about 2k a year but my home hasn't been appraised to match its new value from the price run up to 450k. I paid 290k three years ago.

Been in CO since 2016. Housing prices have exploded, not real excited about getting the next property tax assessment (there is no protection like CA has with Prop 13), although it is still less expensive than CA or TX.

I am in El Paso County which is 50ish miles South of Denver. Very Red area due mainly to the USAFA, Ft Carson, and Pederson AFB being in Colorado Springs.

I'd go to OK. We could register the cars cheap using the wife's tribal membership. But she won't move that far from the grandson. We looked at Boulder City/Henderson but NV is getting as bad as CA. We're thinking of Lake Havasu AZ.

For long termers, California has the lowest property taxes. Buy new and pay 1.5%. My neighbor pays $14k per year on top of their mortgage.

Here I pay $1300 on a $1.5m appraised home. That keeps me here as I can't afford the rates in the other states.

Comparing only ONE facet of taxation does not give a fair picture.
Prop13 does keep the property taxes lower in CA for long-term owners, but the state, cities and counties have made-up the lost revenue in other ways via sales taxes and higher income taxes.

How much gasoline do you use per year?
Gasoline is $1.50 cheaper outside of California.
How much electricity, water and other utilities do you pay for each year?
Electricity is often 1/3 to 1/2 in other states.
You might be surprised to compare all those costs in CA to the same usage in another state.

You can delude yourself if you like, but you are ignoring the actual truth if you don't look at the total cost of living to make an actual fair comparison.

Resident OTC (over the counter) Elk tags are around $60 and gives you the chance to hunt a number of Public Units throughout the state for 2nd and 3rd rifle season

Politics wise, state has turned completely blue. I think every major elected seat at the state level is Democrat and the house and senate are both Democrat controlled and will likely continue that way.

Weather: First hard freeze is usually towards the end of October/early November, however it can snow in September and on the front range we can get snow sometimes into June (we just had a storm come through last weekend where it dumped between 12-18 inches in my area).

Spring and Summer months look out for the thunderstorms...lots of hail. This translates to considerably higher auto and home owners insurance premiums

Gun laws:
The good: no roster, no AWB (except Denver), shall issue CCW (permit is good for 5 years and I think training is only required every other renewal). Loaded handguns are permitted in your vehicle either open or concealed, however long guns must be unloaded (loaded in CO is round chambered) Currently the waiting period is however long it takes CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) to complete background. It can be as little as 5 minutes but during any type of panic buying has been up to several days. NFA friendly, suppressors/SBRs/SBSs/and if you have the coin full auto are all available.

The bad: 15 round mag limits...sort of. Technically there are laws on the books limiting mag capacity to 15 rounds...this is however retailer dependent. I will just say if you want mags with a higher than 15 round capacity you can get them at any number of stores.

This pretty much sums up the CO situation nicely.

Only thing I can really add is that when it comes to mags it's also dependent on how popular the firearm type is; pretty easy to find 16+ round mags for AR's, Glocks, and the like at a majority of retailers, especially the mom & pop shops rather than big box stores, but be prepared to pay more for mag kits for anything that isn't very common. The price I paid for spare KP-9 mags almost equaled how much I paid for the handgun itself when it was all said and done.

Only thing CO has really deterred me from is that I'm not going to really bother with NFA machine guns if acquiring magazines is going to be especially difficult. But no AWB, a mostly ignored HCM law, no handgun roster, no waiting period, no registration, shall-issue carry, and NFA items are accessible (to the point that mom and pop shops keep suppressor's and SBR/SBS's on the rack)? At that point if the only cost from a gun control perspective is UBC's I'll readily accept CO over CA with regards to gun related BS.
