Unfortunately we will not be attending this year because of scheduling conflicts .
A few points about the convention.
#1 it is free to every member.
    #2 attendance is between 30K to 100,000
#3 So many free seminars its difficult to choose , I went to the harden schools and My GF went to some legal thing .
#4 16 acres of guns , bullets , events , hunts and beautiful displays .
#5 Its fun, informative and the best event on earth .

NRA's Event Of The Year - You're invited to NRA's biggest celebration, with an action-packed lineup of events that includes dinners, auctions, concerts, raffles, seminars, workshops, book signings and more.

In Texas 3 days after. Abbott and Trump speaking Friday.
Will be interesting, the mood and tone of their talks, unless they cancel them.
I hope it will be business as usual.

      NRA convention this week

Abbott skipping the convention so he can go to Uvalde.

The Republican governor, who had been scheduled to speak at the NRA event, said he will return to Uvalde, where 19 children and two adults were killed at an elementary school.

More than a few entertainment folks have canceled due to Uvalde.

We canceled our annual convention after the columbine school murders, that also coincidently happened a few days before the NRA convention.

            It was a mistake !
We NRA members and our organization have the solutions for school shootings we are NOT the problem .

Professor John Lott has reported not one school that has made itself a hard target with NRA tactics has been attacked .
That said, this is a good time to join, recruit or upgrade NRA membership.

              Has Trump cancelled as well?
I do not think it would be insensitive to speak at the NRA convention.
Cancelling their talks kind of supports the notion that the NRA is part of the problem.

President Trump is scheduled to speak, although the fake news added they are beefing up security. Security was great last time he spoke to us at our NRA convention. (Lucas Oil stadium )
We took our guns to the car and I forget my leatherman tool . Luckily the knife rights people were there and they secured them until the speech ended .

As an aside police on horseback were watching and My GF asked to have her pic taken with them . Everyone was gay and enjoying the spirit of American liberty and the best POTUS since George Washington .

Start having the conventions in states where gun ownership is under attack. Bring 30,000-100,000 people into such a state and draw those living there to attend as well.

If all the NRA ever does is choose a safe haven to have a convention it's preaching to the choir which as we know, gun owners are prone to do and hoping the NRA is the front guy.

Pick, say, a conservative county in California and make a statement that no state will be forlorn on this issue. Make those in states where gun ownership is under brutal attack very uncomfortable.

A convention in California would shake up things, it would show people living here just how many gun owners there are and that the typical gun owner is their neighbor, their teachers, their friends, their families. Are there not gun makers and gun related accessory makers in California? Sure there are. Every time we turn around another public venue is off-limits. Well, fix that and put an in-your-face convention in California or another like minded state. Let people know how many people there are that aren't some monster waiting to do something heinous, that we have children, grandchildren and we want to protect them, ourselves, our neighbors and the Constitution.

A convention in Texas is like a convention at Mara Lago, so what and no one cares.

This preaching to the choir nonsense is how we ended up with all the laws restricting out rights. How easily we scream AFTER the right has been infringed yet where are all those wonderful organizations and gun companies making billions of dollars? They've found the teet to squeeze money from, donations to beg and nice cozy safe places to party.

There are 50 states in this union, not one.

Let Go of the Status Quo!

Don't worry, it will never pass...How in the hell did that pass?

Think past your gun, it's the last resort, the first is your brain.

Defense is a losing proposition when time is on the side of the opponent. In the history of humanity, no defense has ever won against an enemy with time on their side.

Why reward an anti-gun state full of anti-gun people and anti-gun businesses with the millions that an NRA convention brings with it?

IIRC Cities and states have prohibited NRA conventions ! Along those lines, big media also prohibits TV ads and even the Mayor of Dallas Texas tried to stop our 2018 convention.
Now is a great time to fight with a 5 year NRA membership, up grade or recruitments efforts .

The NRA event can be viewed on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lVHQqOfUrw

Doesn't the NRA solicit donations from gun owners in California? You bet it does. Don't gun and gun related companies make billions off sales to gun owners in California, Why yes, yes they do. Does the NRA want gun owners to vote a certain way? Of course they do. So it's fine to ask for money, votes and support but screw them if they need some help right?

That right there is one reason why things are as they are in California, some idea that supporting gun owners in California is the same as supporting California's restrictive gun laws.

When a friend needs help, do you help or run away? If your friend needed some financial help because his car was towed, knowing he is a good friend and payback isn't an issue, would you help or turn away and say you won't reward the tow company?

That is why I stated quite clearly that the event be held in a country favorable to gun ownership or do you really believe no such place exists?

If you're willing to give up California then which other states are you also willing to give up? That is the mark of a defeatist, those who bug out in the face of adversity and people I'd never count on for anything as they are fair weather individuals.

Do anti-gun people work like that? No, they go into states where they aren't welcome because you can't win anything sitting on the sidelines. This is why they win and we lose and make no mistake about it, they win more than we do. We win a case and think we won something, we won squat. You only win when you get something you didn't have and not when you get something back you lost. Some people can't figure that out.

As others are indicating, there is 'mixed logic' behind the chosen location. I don't disagree with you, but consider the likely logic used by the NRA...
                          • Lower likelihood or lower number of 'locally grown' protesters
                          • Less likelihood of an hostile environment
                          • Greater likelihood of vendor willingness to participate (think about what can be publicly displayed, fondled, etc.)
                          • Available facilities and access to them vs. potentially hostile owners despite the potential revenue
                          • Niceties such as carry for participants
                          • Less institutional resistance translating to lower costs, fewer restrictions, etc.

                          The list goes on.

The point is that they are looking to have a 'successful' convention and you are looking to make more of a 'statement.' As I said, I don't disagree with you. I think more effort needs to be made in terms of support for members in unfriendly or 'occupied' territory. But, think of it from their standpoint and what they are looking to accomplish.

Now... If they were to deliberately plan a different 'event' in 'enemy territory,' there's another important question. Would NRA members actually show an acceptable level of support? Consider how some long-time NRA members on this site react to calls for support. Would you be willing to 'risk' an overt display of Wintemute-type antics unleashed, ostensibly, with State-sponsored support?

Think about what's been happening with gun shows in a place like California and attendees at such shows aren't all NRA members. In fact, there's a good deal of open hostility among California gun owners and the NRA due to past... issues and a perceived lack of support while they continue unabashedly asking for money. Do you think the NRA hierarchy would be willing to risk the investment for something that might turn out to be easily represented as a 'dismal turnout' or, worse, an 'hostile' membership? What if there were an incident such as happened in Vegas a few years ago; something likely to garner more 'sympathetic support' from the locals for the anti's than in a 'friendlier' location.

As I said, I don't disagree with you. But, you have to think about it from their point of view vis a vis the overarching goal and the investment involved vs. the potential problems. It comes down to perceived risk vs. potential reward for them.

What we need to make them see is that such risk/reward equations aren't one-sided and that they are losing potential members and dollars due to perceptions of a lack of support.

Leaders are supposed to lead, lead not the willing but the unwilling. Anyone can lead the willing. The NRA has accepted a leadership role, well then lead. Figure how why some gun owners are adverse to the NRA and figure out how to win then back. Find out what they need instead of hiding in a friendly place.

I get it but look at what the other side does. They don't sit where it's safe, they go to where their opposition is. Why do they do that? Because you accomplish nothing by sitting at home in an echo chamber.

How can anyone claim to support the Constitution and then turn around and say something like every state but California? You either believe in the country as a whole or you don't, there is good and bad and not every and all issues involve guns or gun ownership. One thing is certain, when one falls eventually others do as well:

                            California
                            Washington
                            Oregon

then take the states part of the original union, how many of them fell too?

Using the stay where it's nice and comfortable, lets make sure the police never leave the station, keep them all safe and sound too.

I get it, optics - nice to have a welcoming crowd but just who is being convinced of anything that way, who is learning anything, seeing and talking to people that really are just like them? Are those who disagree with us going to travel to Texas to hear anything the NRA and it's members have to say? The only people who will spend money to travel a long distance to a NRA convention are NRA members. See the problem?

What events has the NRA held in California or other states not so friendly to gun ownership? Zilch. Add up the numbers, those are all votes, elected reps.

By isolating ourselves we're showing everyone else, including those who disagree with us that we're afraid of discussion, afraid to peek out of our comfort zone by golly make sure you put in some money when the hat comes around.

If we are so lame as to accept that the fear of resistance, an unwelcome environment and surrounding ourselves with an echo chamber is somehow going to lead to victory or even sustaining what we have, we're in for a very ride awakening and our days of owning guns are numbered.

We should be having large scale events in states like California, encourage those who disagree to engage, convince them the rights we see as mandatory to retain freedom are there for them as well. We need to stop having litmus tests because that has already backfired on us, now anyone who is a gun owner is someone who is anti abortion (not taking a stance here) and therefore one of the bad people. The truth is many gun owners aren't straight line single issue voters but treating others as a this or that only hurts us.

Throw away states like California and go down the chest thumping route that all states except Komifornia and we'll all reap that reward.

California was once conservative. What happened? People gave up, when they felt uncomfortable they bugged out, they sat out and watched as they lost out.

So, how did all that work out?

Let Go of the Status Quo!

Don't worry, it will never pass...How in the hell did that pass?

Think past your gun, it's the last resort, the first is your brain.

Defense is a losing proposition when time is on the side of the opponent. In the history of humanity, no defense has ever won against an enemy with time on their side.
