There is no penalty enhancement for an off-Roster handgun.

There are penalty enhancements for an unregistered firearm.
    ^Makes misdemeanors into felonies.

Generally, non-residents of CA can not register firearms with CA DOJ.

Which means, if a non-resident of CA is illegally carrying their handgun in CA, then it would treated as a felony because of the non-resident's handgun not being registered.

If the non-resident of CA is bringing the CA legal off-Roster handgun to CA without any intent to sell/transfer it, then there is no crime.

CA legal handgun means it is not considered a prohibited weapon (assault weapon, SBR, SBS, unconventional pistol, etc) under CA laws.

if you have to lock it in your car at anytime just leave it at home you have like a million times more risk of it being stolen out of your car than needing for self defense

Without the ability to actually carry the gun, you'll be better served by a folding knife and some kind of less lethal (pepper spray or other similar).

Right? Sometimes I feel folks are right to make fun of us. Don't jaywalk drunk after 2AM in HB and you'll be fine (seriously, that dude is going 70+, if you're not from here it might seem you have enough time but you don't). Rowdy college kids aren't an actual threat.

Bring it. Lock it up unloaded while driving in Kalifornia. Once at your destination, even if camping, you can have it loaded.

No kidding. There is Slater slums but even that isnt gang infested neighborhood. I had my Shop in HB for 15 years and I never had any issues. Once in a while a bum had to be told to leave but i never had any issues. At any time of the day or night. i never felt the need to carry a gun
