5.56? lots of unburnt powder. Even with long suppressor you'd need special loads to reduce flash signature and velocity would be pitiful. Suppressor life would be seriously reduced let alone full auto capability.
Owned a 7.5 inch AR pistol. Nopes.. Never again
300 BO, better but sweet spot is around 8 inch barrel. Using subsonics with suppressor is cthe at's meow. -
But at a cost and lost potential of 1200fps a 26 barrel would do. So a lot of that powder is unutilized.2200 fps out of a 6" barrel. It would certainly hurt.

Curious, how much softer the load could be made and still get 2200fpsBefore there was Polymer there was Accuracy.Comment

The article makes it sound like it's for both. It would make sense to have the 5.56 barrel because of ammo logistics. It made sense to me, which is why I'm thinking about it.
The inside word is it was named Rattler because in 5.56 it would rattle your teeth out.
Have you shot one in 5.56, Beanz?Comment

No, mine is a .300BO.

It would be cool to have a 5.56 kit for it, though.sigpic

5.56 at night would look like a flamethrower. At 2200 fps I'm guessing it would not be very quiet either. But I'll bet it would be fun as all get out to shoot.Comment

Heh.
Do you shoot it with a can? I don't have one that's rated for the barrel length, but I figured a few rounds here and there wouldn't hurt. But now I'm thinking I want one that officially rated for 5.5 inches, and the only one I can think of is a Rugged. I forgot if you have one.
Unfortunately I have to be in the same room when I pull the pin. Unless I can stick the muzzle into the room and stay outside. Maybe I need to start looking for a Rugged Surge.Comment

I have run it with Sandman K, Nomad 30 and Vox K, all of them are on Key-Mount. None of them have barrel length restrictions. I have a few more, but it makes no sense to run long suppressors with such a short rifle. The only Rugged I have is the Oculus, a .22lr can.Heh.

I have a Rattler in .300 and love it I have a dedicated Dead Air Nomad on it. I doubt the SOCOM folks really want 5.56. There is just no way to suppress that caliber in such a short barrel. It's ear-splitting, even with a can.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

Oh, didn't know Dead Airs have no barrel length restrictions. Wonder if there's room at the rear to use a YHM coupler. YHM makes a short muzzle device, although I don't have any. YHM's can be put on and taken off without tightening a collar and I'm thinking of getting a Canebrake handguard so I can telescope the can inside the handguard.
I have a 10.5 inch AR and that's more than loud enough. Not bad at all with a Turbo though. Not hearing safe but fairly close.
Have you witnessed or shot a 5.56 Rattler, with or without a can?Comment
