    I think I have a M1A national match.

I have an older M1A and was thinking maybe I will sell it. So I looked on Springfields website to see what one new would cost and The rear site looked different on mine. Then I looked at Google images and I found mine which looked like a small barrel you looked thru. I clicked on the picture and it was the M1A national match. The Barrel is stamped NM on top but I didn't think that meant anything. I ordered the wrench and Springfield Armory CA compliant Muzzle Break so I can make it legal. I think it's cool that I may have a National match rifle.

Older rifles have a lot of desirable features like all metal trigger groups and usgi parts.

Some of the first "Loaded" models were equipped with NM parts. To be sure, contact Springfield CS and run the serial numbers by them. They'll probably be able to tell you the year of manufacture as well.

Send an email to Lexi Strode at Springfield Armory.

They will be able to trace your rifle's serial number for its year of manufacture, and in what configuration your rifle left the factory.

I contacted Springfield so we'll see what they say but it looks like the action is glass bedded and the flash hider looks to be reamed and tapered as well as the front sight has NM stamped on it. The serial number is 0574XX so looks to be right about 1990 maybe. The stock is far from pristine but not beat up. I may take some boiled linseed oil to it, but want to research more.

I think 1990/91 is the Golden Year for M1A builds. May be a heckuva keeper.

Mine was made circa 88-ish, and also has the hooded sight. Mine isn't NM though, and I don't think they made a "loaded" model back then. Mine had the box and I don't remember anything about NM on it. The box was since stolen, rifle too. Got the rifle back, but not the box.

BTW, the hooded sight is a fine adjustment on the rear sight. I think the sight is only adjustable to 1 moa, and the hood on the sight is .5 moa if you rotate it because the aperture is not exactly in the center.

Mine is more accurate than I would expect of that sort of rifle that's not a competition gun. I was getting 1.75 inch groups and I'm not a good shot.

I thought all the NM’s had stainless barrels?

Nope. My M21 has the park'ed barrel as well.

pretty sure the nat mats have "glass bedding" which is some kind of grey epoxy in the stock you can see around the trigger group

Just got off the phone with Springfield and the rifle indeed is a national match that was sold in June of 1990. It looks like they're going to be able to send me the paperwork for it.
