In general you are not wrong. However, the owner decided this is his business model. To more explain on your above question, advertisement. DAU & MAU are key to advertisers. Without advertisers internet based business will go belly up unless you have other funds to support it. Lets use Twitter for an example, for years they can't figure how to monetize and their DAU/MAU are dwindling year after year. If they start to charge there would be zero DAUs. So the balancing act is how to satisfy advertiser's matrix so they keep advertising while in the same time get public to pay without loosing DAU. If Calguns were to make everyone pay or become a contributor, there would be dramatic decrease in DAU and jeopardise advertisers which will then lead to possible BK.

That's a bit dramatic, with exaggeration. Nor am I actually seeing an extreme volume or difference of it now any more than it had ever been in the past.

I just don't see the concern, and it's easily managed as a personal responsibility.

I even see a lot of people calling out sellers as 'scammers' when in reality, they simply don't like the terms of the seller, the price, and/or the entirety of ignorance or misunderstanding fully resides with them rather than the seller.

Interesting that arfcom seems to do OK...with a marketplace limited to contributing members and advertisers.

I'm going to say that I have bought a dozen guns from the buyers in the CG Marketplace over the past six months and every single seller has been nothing but nice, considerate, flexible and reasonable. Guess I've just been lucky and I have driven collectively over 3,000 miles in the past six months for Marketplace buys. I only buy from buyers with 100% feedback and a decent amount. We are all the police of our Marketplace. If someone is a dick or dishonest, call them out and leave them negative feedback.

Every CG buyer I have ever bought from has been pretty cool, chill and nice people. The system works and trusting your ability to read people works too. If I ever did text or talk on the phone with someone and they seem sketchy, I am passing on meeting up with them no matter how much I want to buy their gun. And yes, I did renew my Calguns membership/contribution.

I started there I remember I was looking for a specific 1911 and my buddy who is a member here recommended CG which at the time I didn't know existed and I reached out to the seller and bam, done deal, glad the seller was trustworthy and in turn he trusted me being that I didn't even know what Itrader ratings were

If Kes wants to go that route, i'm all for it. And have paid mods to enforce marketplace rules which I believe arfcom has. arfcom's "seems to do ok" might not be in line with Kes' ok tho. Who knows. I just follow along whatever Calguns decides.

Ha Ha - talk to resident parody specialist 'ysr_racer' about that. Put him on ignore and 95% of your parody thread problem is solved.

Though I think if Kestryl got rid of 'Off-Topic' in its entirety, and ONLY allow gun and 2nd Amendment related discussions, we would all be better off.

There are too many people here where 99.9% of their posts are in 'Off-Topic' only, where they rarely ever have any involvement in gun related discussions or activities at all - all while there is already a Facebook group, club, or pajama-party for that nonsense.

Calguns was much better, more effective with 2nd Amendment advocacy and action, and more community mindedness with that common goal when 'Off-Topic' forum was not the primary lead attraction of Calguns.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

Darn. Sorry to hear this, but not surprised. Scammers are such a drain on time. Presently trying to work up the gumption to list my "new" p229 I have sold somethings (no guns) on CG but the buyers gave no rating. Have dealt with Craigs List for 20 years so maybe I have seen it all? They have increased a lot over the last few years.
