Reloading dude! 9x18 Mak is one of the easiest rounds to reload and you can make better ammo cheaper. If you have any SPPs?

If not, yeah, it's really expensive and pretty hard to find. Keep scanning Gunbroker, I got some deals at about .35 per round for S&B a few months ago.

I don’t know gun stores aren’t ordering it since it’s still available.
Maks are as popular here as anywhere else. Sportsmans here isn’t even carrying 7.62x39 anymore either. Plenty online (SGAMMO etc).

Overall, compared to 9x19 Luger, .45 ACP, .22, 9x18 Mak is an oddity. During the shortage, anything that isn't those is going to be rare.
I really miss ordering from SG, I bought hundreds of thousands of rounds from them over the years, good vendor. Unfortunately they dumped California. You're lucky you can still order from SG Ammo!
