how long does new resident registration take?

Submitted a delayed registration form for 2 handguns (Springfield XD) that were brought into the state a few years ago but were in storage, figured I better get them registered. Submitted form, ID and check a few weeks ago but have not heard anything nor has the check been cashed. Is this normal, I have no idea of how long this should take. Thanks.

Anywhere from 3 months to well over a year. If you have not heard from them in say 16 months, then perhaps you might inquire.

You also should have done it online so you would have immediate record of payment and a way to track it and make inquiries easier.

Your legal requirements are complete the moment you submit the report.

CA DOJ BOF used to mail an acknowledgement letter 4-64 weeks after they cash in the payment for the report.
^Due to "COVID related delays", this may now take 6-18 months.
