My daughter gave me a gun that lives in another state. I'm a California resident that is legal to own a gun here in California. How do I get the gun registered to me here in California? Also is there any length she is required to own the gun in her State before she could give it to me? Thans for any info

She has to ship it or bring it to a CA FFL. Contact your CA transfer FFL for instructions.Comment

Doesn’t the “seller” have to be a CA resident?sigpicComment

^^ Where did that dumb question come from. No sale is happening here.Daughter ships direct to ffl with note saying gift to father and her id.She does not have to be ca resident. Interstate intrafamilial transfer. Where are you located so someone can refer ffl that won't bend you over.Comment

Why son in law. Son in law cannot do transfer unless on roster as straight sale or gift. No intrafamilial as he is not family.Comment

This. Federal law requires interstate transfers - in this case, 'some other state' to 'California' - use an FFL, and for handguns, must be an FFL in the receiver's state of residence.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

Father in law does NOT work. Has to be a direct relative..grandfather to grandson would work. Father to Son works.May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I amComment

This thread is inline with a few questions I have regarding this subject so pardon me if it appears if I am hijacking it but my question is whether or not the firearm that Goodmans Daughter is giving him has to be on the roster. And, do the gift rules pertain to out of state brother to Calif brother gift also...Comment

Parent, grandparent, son or daughter. Not an in-law.Comment

Does not have to be on the roster. Brother to brother does NOT work. Only up or down the direct family line: child-parent-grand parent-great grand parent.
