Want to try out guns at range.

Any recommendation for a gun shop that rent out pistol on range for people to try them out in Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, Napa, and Santa Clara county. Specifically looking for semi auto in the 9,40 and 45 calibers. Must be 21 years old in order to rent them correct? I'm turning 21 soon and want to try them all out before making a first purchase. Thanks

Reed's Range in Santa Clara has a fairly decent array of rental handguns. I never shot any .40, so never looked at their selection, but I remember having a variety of options for 9mm and .45 (including a Thunder Ranch Special, which was fun to shoot).

+1 to Reed's. ton of semiautomatics, decent selection of revolvers and .22's, and at least one pistol-caliber carbine and 12ga shotgun. expect to pay at least $40 for one handgun, one hour, 50 rounds, eye & ear protection, and a couple targets.

If you feel like driving another 45 min beyond Reed's, Markely's in Watsonville is where I bought my first handgun when I turned 21. I went in on a weekday afternoon and tried out about 6 pistols. I picked one to buy and they didn't charge me for the rental or ammo, which was pretty cool. This was a couple years ago so no guarantee that's still their policy.

+1 for Reeds. Also remember that you can't rent a gun alone, UNLESS you bring another gun of your own in. To prevent suicides. Two people can rent together.
