Just for fun: 50 state legal gun…

What’s your pick for a gun that:

    Is legal in every state,
Is effective/plausible for self defense (2&4-legged threats),
Is reliable in all conditions (using weather-specific oil is fine),
    Uses widely available ammunition,
Does not need “neutering” as you travel,
Could be used to add meat to your diet where it’s legal to do so.

    Again, just for fun.

For example, my beloved XD9 is designed around a 13rd mag and ships with a neutered 10 rounder for California. Result: Disqualification!

Also, I think it’s important to know what restrictions are in place in 2022 in different states.

Don’t those ship with a 10+ round mag?

If you're traveling through all of the US states you better choose a 12 gauge shotgun because I believe there are still some states, up in the Northeast, New England area and probably others, that legally make the shotgun (with slugs or possibly buckshot) the only choice for hunting their "big game" like deer.
And you can get a lot of other Wildlife with the wide variety of 12 gauge ammo available almost every sporting good store.

I know a lot of people love the Remington 870 but I grew up with a Mossberg 500 so I think I might choose of Mossberg 590, that has some upgraded metal parts because it had to pass military endurance high-round testing but without the available bayonet lug just in case that's illegal somewhere.

Might even get it in one of those Mariner/ silver cerakote anti-rust finishes.

                    Yup.
Reading around here and there the shotgun and 22LR rifle are legal in many countries that have "gun bans" because of their farming / hunting / utility use. Semi autos seem to be banned but maybe they are just too expensive for some places.

revolver and lever action same caliber.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Was a County law where I grew up (Maryland). We had a bow season, black powder season, and shotgun season. No rifles for any game. Just not enough open land for rifles to really be safe. Half the county is the Washington, DC suburb so no firearm discharges allowed for any reason in so many city limits, but the north half of the county has farms. And so many deer that people are getting killed hitting them with cars, but pretty much anywhere to hunt there's a neighborhood within 1/2 mile in any direction.
