Question for those who have left California

Just out of curiosity, did you take your Cali legal mags with you? If so, assuming some of them were riveted, were you able to remove the rivets and still have the mags be functional?

My mags were all standard capacity or drum mags purchased in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. As well as most of my firearms.

I did take my mags with me, but mine were all actual 10-round magazines, no modified ones. They're all just sitting in a box up in the top of the closet in case I need them again.

I’m planning on moving out of state at some point but there’s an opportunity to buy some riveted 30 rounders at a good price. If removing the rivets later on doesn’t affect functionality I’m going to buy a bunch. That’s basically the reason for the question.

Before I split I'll make you a deal on my 10 rounders.

I would take them with you and keep them in 10rd configuration if you move to a free state. With the idiot in the White House and pelosi in the house, it wouldn't surprise me if they try to pass a 10 round nationwide limit or an executive order doing the same.

Just buy new standard caps wherever you wind up in free America. They're pretty darn cheap when you can get them on a good sale. Especially in bulk.

I did for my CZ 75, when I replaced them with standard capacity mags I sent them to a friend with the same gun.

That's exactly why I kept mine. If for some reason I'm limited to 10 rounds in the future I won't have to bother going out and buying new ones. It's not like they're taking up a bunch of space.

I left my ca low-cap magazines at a house I own in ca. I visit ca often enough that I like to be able to bring my Glock with me and not have to deal with the mags.

Ditto, or as parts sets in baggies.

Bought up high capacity magazines for most of my weapons when I could. A local gun store that I often buy from recently had 30 round MagPul AR magazines on sale at 12.99 so I grabbed some at that price.

If you can leave Ca, you can buy new standard capacity mags for pennies on the dollar compared to this state. I don't think its possible to have too many mags, restricted or standard capacity.

The MOA on this question is atrocious.

Can you de-rivet a mag and still use it?

I kept my 10 round mags and organized them into an ammo can as range/training mags.

Least that way when I'm taking new shooter's out it's easy for me to remember how many rounds they've shot when I'm going to put 10 rounds into the mag regardless of if it's a 10 rounder or a factory mag of higher capacity.
