Will a carbine gas tube work on 18’’barrel

Got some spare parts to make a range plinker. Will a carbine gas tube fit a 18’’ barrel?

Depends on where the gas port is drilled you have to take a look at that then decide what gas tube is appropriately sized

      Depends on the cartridge.
Most 18" 223/5.56 barrels are going to be built for midlength, intermediate or rifle gas systems.
An 18" 300 blackout would work with a carbine gas system and therefore a carbine gas tube.
The location of the gas port on the barrel is what determines what gas tube you use.

A: I don’t know much and typically hunt down posts by Randall to try to learn things.

B: I have a BCM 16” .300 black and it’s with a carbine length gas system. A lot of them (16” .300) use pistol, BCM did a kind of workaround to make them run subs & supers reliably.

16" carbine gassed 300 blackouts only function with subsonic loads under very specific conditions as to what powder and bullet weight you run.
Going to pistol makes it so you have a LOT more powder and bullet options.
Only a few very specific powders will function a 16" carbine gassed 300 blackout.

I’m sure I’ve posted this before, I just offer it for information for those who may be curious. BCM states their 16” carbine gassed build us designed to run all supers (obviously) and guaranteed to run hornady factory 208 grain subs 100%.

This was perfect for me as I wanted to primarily run supers but still wanted the ability to occasionally run subs so I didn’t find the one brand guaranteed to function problematic. I have specifically tried 9 different types of subsonic ammo from 200-245 grain and they’ve all run 100% so I’m very happy with it. I have it on a lower with a rifle length tube and an H3 buffer.
