    Ballistic Helmets

Not sure if this is the right place for this but does anyone have any advice for ballistic helmets? It is my new rabbit hole and the voice in my head has convinced me I need one.

      Flip side of Dousan's point.

Just pick up a surplus ACH or MICH helmet. Usually run between 50$-250$. Best budget ballistic protection.

What is your goal of helmet? Platform for earpro/comms/NV/thermal? Or just to have in case SHTF?

Or buy a brand new Lightweight ACH for $300-$400 that's been adopted by the Army. There's a big huge thread somewhere that spans months.

This^ unless you're a retiring navy seal or other high-speed operator planning on some post-career contractor work. Even then you might want to wait since you might get issued what you need depending on your employer.

Any of the modern ballistic helmets are fine. PASGT helmet are fine when you ditch the "suspension" liner for the foam-pads that stick to the velcro patches. Upgrade to a 4-point harness as well. These are upgrade kits that work with the composite helmets.

You don't even need a helmet for nv. There are harnesses you can get that are much lighter than any helmet.

What you need a helmet for, there is no substitute for. That's keeping things from hitting your noggin.

There are, but less stable and less comfortable. Done the research, talked with folks with first hand experience

I used a friends Mitch Helmet for one NV shoot. It was heavy and realistically offers little real protection.

Now I just run a bump helmet. Holds my NV, Light, Hearing Protection and give zero neck fatigue. Mines a Ops Core.

Wait until Hard Hat Veterans releases their new ATE Lite. It's made in the USA:

"Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" - Senator Barry Goldwater
