General takeaway; don't be an idiot with a gun, learn proper form to handle recoil, and don't be that guy/gal that hands a newbie too much gun at the start.

Videos only go so far. Best to take a class, or to have at least some formal training with someone who is competent, or even better, a certified instructor.

Probably good to ask in the Ladies Forum too. There are many female firearm instructors who cater to the first time shooters or gun owners. Dealing with macho-crap is hard enough on guys getting into shooting...

4 basic rules should be all she needs, I am sure she understands that guns can kill, as long as you keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and follow the other rules, there will never (almost never) be a problem.

The NRA Women on Target do a good one day class . Not sure of fee's but guns, ammo, instruction are included and of course they use their own guns after learning on the self loading 22s provided .

Thanks everyone . Her father shoots. Kinda makes me wonder why he has not taught her already. Mainly I'm making her yes MAKING Her watch as many videos and read as much literature as possible . It's more for my own peace of mind when target practice happens .. I really do not want to deal with a gun shot wound on anybody most importantly ME ,if I don't have to .I was raised with safe handling habits . And had a father that didn't hesitate to remind me with a jog to the brain when needed . Needles to say it didn't take long for good habits to become the norm .plus ... I know how chicks,, I mean women are , I mean can be .

Step one: Have her think about what guns can do. That in itself should instill the need for proper handling and care.

The NRA has a bunch of material (most, if not all, available for free) that goes into the safety aspect. Classes beyond that (generally no-so-much free.)

Videos depend on what you want to show - near incidents, actual accidents, actual fatal accidents. Personally, I'd stick to the what-to-do material and leave the actual stuff up to the imagination, lest you scare them off.
