I emailed the DOJ and they gave me this copypaste response. Talk about lack of even addressing any of my concerns..

Super Advanced DOJ Customer Service RobotHuman :
A DROS application can be delayed for many reasons. Most often it is because the background check found a record matching your personal descriptors (such as your name, date of birth, etc.) and more time is needed to verify that the record is yours and to obtain missing information needed to determine your eligibility to own or possess firearms.

Please be patient and allow the Department enough time to gather additional information and resolve any issues. The Department will notify the firearms dealer to delay the transfer of a firearm to a purchaser if the Department is unable to determine the purchaser’s eligibility within the 10-day waiting period.
Gee, what helpful service! Five stars! /s

They have 10 days to move the gun to the specific store with the pending DROS so it's usually not a problem.

I suppose that problems can occurr when a gun is not properly apportioned to a specific store before the DROS is started and another store apportions that gun and then ALSO starts a DROS.

Having 32 stores and a central warehouse certainly makes them different than a one-location company but DOJ lets them do a DROS without the firearm in the actual store BECAUSE there is enough time to move the firearm before the release is due.
    OK, I agree.

Would have been more accurate to use "INVENTORY" rather than "hand".

If they don't have it in hand inventory.

But they MUST HAVE IT. They are not just making up numbers and measurements to put on an official document.

I saw this comment, is that a phone number that I (a regular consumer/citizen) can call or does the FFL have to do it? I have bought two other long-guns in the past year or so (none anywhere near 30-days ago) so I don't see any reason why I went "delayed".

Any additional guidance would be great, I just want to bring the new toy home!

66nick .... FFLs have direct numbers to DOJ-BOF.

DOJ-BOF doesn't answer phones when lowly peons like you and me call them.

Since there is no way at least that I know of for us to go online (ie: DOJ website) to verify our DROS was actually submitted, then that could leave room for abuses.

If we have to depend on the FFL to tell us if we are undetermined, denied, approved, etc then they could tell us anything they want. No way to verify it but correct me if I'm wrong.
We don't have the exclusive access to the DOJ's-DES that FFLs have.

You didn't get a copy of the DROS at the time you bought the gun? Which has the exact release date 240 Hours in the future, right down to the minute? Clearly printed on top. When the 10 days is up?

I always have. Then a copy of the completed DROS at time of pick up.

Undetermined ... DOJ leaves it up to the FFL to inform the buyer. Some lazy bastards don't. They do send a letter by snail mail to the address on the DROS. Which of course always arrives after the customer has driven to the FFL to pick up his gun.

Denied ... They inform the FFL immediately. AND send a snail mail letter to the address of buyer listed on DROS.

Approved ... I believe they [DOJ] do nothing. Leaving the FFL free to release at date/time shown on DROS. Maybe the FFL gets an alert on their computer DES.

Of all the dozens of members coming into this thread alone. Complaining about getting screwed by the illegal acts of unscrupulous FFLs who refuse to release on undetermined status.

Yet only ONE HAD THE NUTZ to stand up to, and sue the BASTARD.

Hey guess what? HE WON. Because he refused to be screwed.

    Hats off to Member "Cyclon310".

If just the dozens of "SCREWEES" in this thread would stand up for their rights. And sue the bastards. Word would swiftly spread among FFLs that this illegal behavior is no longer profitable, OR TOLERATED, by gun buyers in Ca.

Hopefully its not true but wouldn't be surprised by how they treat their customers.

When you call they tell you one thing on the phone but when you get in the store a few minutes later they tell you something totally different. The first time it happened I chalked it up to maybe just an honest mistake but they did it at least three times to me. They lie like its nothing. I didn't think people could just lie so brazenly. Is it lying or gross incompetence? Either way is just as bad.

    Turner's Outdoorsman, specifically Fountain Valley.

I have had a CCW for 7 years. I have an 03FFL and COE. There is no reason to delay me.

I'm on day 17. I will never shop there again after this. I had no idea this was such a problem until I read this whole thread.

The manager gave me some bullsh1t speech about me committing a crime with the stupid .22lr rifle I have in DROS hell.

This state, I swear to god...

    Stupid Turner's won't even release a 22 rifle.

Turner's in Signal Hill told me to come in to the store to refund my card since my DROS came back undetermined July 5 for a Browning .22 pistol. When I got there today the same manager tells me they don't refund by credit card even though that is how I paid for the deposit. He said they will mail me a check in a couple weeks.

That sounds shady as hell. I've done dozens of returns in the past with other businesses but never heard of any store making you wait that long for a refund. They always refund back to the method you paid in the full amount.

I never even touched the product since it was never released to me so there is no excuse to hold my money.

It's bad enough I had to wait 30 days for nothing now they want me to wait another two weeks for my refund?? Screw that! Ridiculous. How do I know they will even send me anything, or if it will be in the full amount!?

I'm not waiting to find out I'm going to start a charge back through my bank.

Day 66 update! Still undetermined, won't release to me. Also stole 50% of my money with their ridiculous restocking fee. If you want to gamble your money away I'd suggest at least making it fun instead of doing business with BRECO FIREARMS in Clovis.

13 years of my business down the drain. BRECO FIREARMS is dead to me.

Think twice before giving your business to BRECO FIREARMS in Clovis.
