Common for FFLs to charge storage fee?

I haven't bought a firearm in about a year and browsed the marketplace the other day. One of the ads said that Gunsdirect charges $10 a day storage fee if the firearm isn't picked up on the 10th day!

    Is that typical now?

I have not bought anything for a couple years now but Greta’s in Ventura did that several years ago.

Their justification was that they were a relatively small shop with a high transaction volume and they needed the guns to move quickly.

When everyone was buying guns at the same time maybe but now they aren't even using their powder safe.

No not common. Up to ffl and if they need it to get guns out of safe if limited room.

Yesterday at a PPT at Ammo Brothers the buyer was told he could pick up in 10 days at the earliest but 30 days was the limit.

After a certain time a Re-DROS might be the rule.

Typically one would only hear about those types of fees when the buyer does not pick up the firearms within a reasonable amount of days such as within 7-10 days, but recently there's been many people posting that certain FFL's charge the fee on the 11th day following the 10 day waiting period which is absurd

Ridiculous……. I could understand if they said if you haven’t started your DROS and the firearm has been there longer than 30 days.

At the same time…. They should support any sale of firearms as they get the benefit of sales from people coming into their store

If someone does not pick up after 20 days then a fell should be appropriate. That is just laziness or a procrastinator. I always pick up as soon as i can. If fees for storage then notify before starting dros.

Seems like a clear signal that they don't want to do PPTs. Worked on me. I'll never go there again to do a PPT or even to buy anything.

G4 firearms in NorCal charges this illegal $75 "storage fee" regardless of whether you pick up on the 10th day to the minute.
So the undisclosed dros fee is $122 by default after the paper work is done for a ppt.
                      Just another squeeze.

ehhh, there's plenty of FFL's who WILL do PPT's as they should and not bat an eye in the process, now those are the ones we should 100% support

Most shops I go to are filled with people waiting to do PPTs or out of state transfers. I don't know if they sell anything or they just do PPTs all day.

They probably figure $10 bucks or whatever the amount isn't enough so they're adding surcharges.
