just bought a used xds 45 which has been recalled fixed. i can pull the trigger when the grip safety isn't 100% compressed, just curious if this is intended to have partial compress and it could fire?

xds grip safety question

How much less than 100%? -
what was the recall repairing?
Somewhere a person has the XDS armorers manual and can check the specsRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

A 1911 doesn't need the grip safety to be 100% compressed. A proper one doesn't require much press at all. IMO, a grip safety that needs 100% press is a terrible one, because any little grit or dirt could prevent that 100% press from being achieved - to say nothing of a rushed grip.
- The first test of the grip safety is - can the gun fire without anything touching the grip safety.
- The second test is - can the gun fire with some modest application of the grip safety.
If you answer NO to part 1 and YES to part 2, then you have a good grip safety. Of course that assumes the grip safety moves without binding and also returns to fully extended under it's own power when released.
IIRC the recall had nothing to do with the grip safety, even though they did install a roll pin in the grip safety to denote it had been done.

partially grip safety compress to fire was approximately 50% or so.
the recall was to fix the slam fire, and or the slide chambering a bullet without a trigger reset.
no, it won't fire without some compression to the safety grip so 1 for no and 2 for yes.
one thing i don't like about this XDS 45 is when chambering a round, i can't ride the slide otherwise it will jam. if i let the slide slam shut it won't jam. my other guns i can ride the slide such as my glocks and not jam.Comment

riding the slide is a bad habit, the XDs is trying to break you of it

I just checked my XDS-45 mod2 and the grip safety only needs approx 50% to allow the trigger to release the striker.Comment

I think 50% is an OK number. I personally would not want any more than that, and actually prefer less than that.
Luckily it is easy to reduce a 1911 grip safety to your desired amount of press. I have no idea if the XD series can be tuned for less.Comment

oh what the hell, tried mine
trigger releases just about where I can't see daylight through the roll pin
I'd say roughly 25%-35% of grip safety travel
either way, I've got fairly stout paws and I'll admit, you'd better have a good grip on that sucker with HST +p

I started out with nothing - and I still have most of itComment
