Just moved back to CA, can I...

Moved back to CA recently, already sent the CA DOJ gun registration forms in for the guns i brought with me. Can I bring in more guns in a couple months from now that I already own and are in my out of state house? Or, is it a bring them in at the time of relocation type thing? Don't wanna break any laws, but would like to bring a few more off roster handguns here to CA. Thanks for any help in advance!

Fill out another gun registration form for the guns you want to bring in. In other words, do it once for each time you bring new guns in.

It's gonna depend on whether California considers you as a "New Resident" or as a returning resident.

Be careful here. If you fit the returning resident category, then you're committing a felony of you bring in any handguns that you purchased while out of state. It's only a misdemeanor for other firearms.

Please refer to Penal Code section 27585.

This is something to definitely consider.

Thanks for all of the info. I was a non-resident for the last 8 years. Will check the penal code.

Anyone have any info as to how the state defines new resident versus returning resident? I left CA 8 years ago, sold my CA house at that time and purchased a new residence in TX. Didn't work, own property or live in CA for the last 8 years. Hoping that qualifies me as a "new resident"...

I would also believe that the above places you into the "New Resident" category, but check out PC 17000(b) to be sure.

Did you cancel your voter registration when you left? That's a little trap that snares many.
Take a look at the Franchise Tax Board website. It has a list of things that they use to consider you a subject of the ruling CA elite.

What were you drinking that perpetuated your decision to come back here?

Lots of good information here and just a reminder, these California laws are designed to trick , fine and imprison people who have no criminal intent or background.
They view guns and gun owners as un desirables .

                        You've made 3 mistakes.

                        1. Deciding to move back to California

                        2. Deciding to move back to California and telling people about it.

                        3. Deciding to move back to California and telling people about it on a public forum and at the same time declaring you wish to bring guns into the state that they have deemed illegal for a resident to purchase.

Sorry about whatever is going on in your life to make this decision.

Its been strongly suggested to me that one hire a property manager and rent out the property . If possible.

Welcome back and keep everything 100% legal . These laws ultimate goal is to neutralize gunowners through ,fines court dates and maybe loss of voting .

I humbly suggest you join or upgrade your NRA membership and recruit others.
Although we are an occupied state , they still have lots to do in order to make their omelet .
