Flying to CA

I'm flying from South Carolina to SD and driving my grandfather back to SC, he's moving to a free state. I want to bring my Glock 29 because it has factory 10 round mags. I purchased the 29 after I moved out of CA. I also no longer have one of those "handgun safety" cards or whatever BS is needed to dros a handgun in CA.

I have my Glock 17 I bought and DROS'd when I lived in OC and it has CA blocked 10 round mags, but I would rather take the 29.

Any new laws since I left in 2018 that I need to worry about? Has Gav Gav said 10mm has too much powder and can no longer be allowed in the Golden State?

Don't want to have my Glock seized at SAN when I get off the plane.

The Glock 29 is CA legal, as long as it does not have a threaded barrel.

While transporting the handguns, they need to be unloaded and in a locked container.

Do not bring any large capacity (11+ round) magazines to CA.

A valid FSC, which replaced the HSC, is not required to legally own a firearm in CA.
^It is only required to legally acquire a firearm in CA.

The 29 has become my go to *while driving through* (edit) blue states because of the factory 10 round mags.

How is the ammo situation out there? Think I can find some 10mm at Turners, or should I order some and have them shipped to my Gramps place in Chula Vista?

Technically...

The locked container can be any where in the vehicle, including the passenger compartment.

The locked container can have ammo (including loaded magazines) in it, as long as the ammo is not in the firearm.
^Unloaded Glock 29 with no magazine in grip and loaded magazines next to the Glock 29, all of which are in a locked container = CA legal.

If you leave the locked container with the unloaded firearm in an unattended vehicle, then it must be concealed from plain sight or in the vehicle's locked trunk.

Ammo is slim.

Because of CA ammunition laws:

Starting 01-01-2018...

It is CA legal for a non-resident of CA to bring ammunition into CA for personal use.

It is CA illegal for a non-resident of CA to bring ammunition into CA and transfer it to another person without having the transfer be done through a CA DOJ licensed ammunition vendor or CA FFL dealer.

Starting 07-01-2019...

A CA DOJ licensed ammunition vendor and CA FFL dealer must submit an ammunition DROS for the sale of ammo and the transfeee must pass an eligibility check before they can take physical possession of the ammo.

A non-resident of CA is not eligible for a Standard Ammunition Eligibility Check, which costs $1.00 and is an "instant" check.

A non-resident of CA may attempt to conduct a Basic Ammunition Eligibility Check, which costs $19.00 and can take up to 30 days to conduct.
^Pay for ammo and check fees, you leave and wait until CA DOJ approves which can take 30+ days. After you are approved, you go back and pick up the ammo.

It is less of a hassle and less expensive for you to bring ammo with you to CA, than to try and buy it in CA.

Turner's says they currently have in stock Fiocchi 10mm 180gr FMJ for $45 per 50 round box.

The airline may limit the total weight of the ammunition you bring, so that will limit you in that regard. If you were driving, you could bring enough for your friends, and leave it here, but you would be in violation of a rule that is nearly impossible to enforce.

TSA, et al, do not inspect luggage upon arrival. That is all done as you check in prior to you leaving SC.
