Project Farm Tests Gun Lubes

Nice test. One thing not mentioned was how toxic any of them were. I moved from Breakfree to Slip 2000 years ago because its less toxic and seems to work the same. In fact I find it "drys out" less after months/years of storage than Breakfree.Comment

Good video, thanks for posting.
I landed on Lubriplate oil and grease for lubrication after a long, deep dive on the topic. Still satisfied many years later.
Here is one of the better technical discussions on lubrication I have found, for those interested.
True, the video above is for a CLP (clean, lubricate, protect), not just a lube. In my experience, using specialized products for each separate function (clean, lubricate, protect) gives superior results in each category. A product that works well enough for all 3 functions is somewhat of a compromise. That is pretty well illustrated in the OP video.
I do understand the value in having 1 do-all product, however, especially in certain circumstances. And in truth, I have found my regular gun oil to be fine for cleaning up a lightly used firearm.Last edited by adamjay; 01-20-2022, 1:53 AM.'The greatest fine art of the future will be the making of a comfortable living from a small piece of land.'

I love how he gets right to the point and speaks quickly. No droning on about minutia and personal thoughts/anecdotes.Originally posted by MelvinoelGreat**My friend, your Chargers sure are looking good tonight. They are only losing by 14 at the half, not to bad my friend.Comment

For gun lo0b, I like equal parts Hoppes Gun Oil and Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic Blend 5W-30 from a pin oiler for my 1911s, bolt action rifles, revolvers, and lever action carbines. The improvement in "slick" is dramatic when blending in any synthetic motor oil. Some use a full syn exclusively, but I wouldn't on a brand-new gun. Use conventional (or, mineral-) oil until some parts' burnishing occurs from some use, first.
I use ATF on my lone AR. (have some leftover Dex III from a few years back when I last drove an automatic that had a dip stick)
For bore solvents I use Hoppes #9, or Ballistol. When I want to completely remove any copper jacket (gilding metal) fouling so that I can shoot lead only (or vice versa), I'll use BARNES' C-10..

I'd like to see Superlube and ALG Go Juice. I like stuff that is less toxic. I still clean with Froglube because it is the only paste I can find, works great as a cleaner and plays nice with Superlube or ALG afterwards.
Bummed on Ballistol's results.Comment
