Just told my partner over dinner, like a kid who did something bad, I bought a new rifle. I swear it doesn't make sense to my wife when I want to spend thousands on gun builds. When I compare to things she spends, "it's different". Please tell me I'm not the only one who fights the good fight lol. Not upset with her, just venting -_-

Everybody has to have a hobby. Not knowing how your personal finances are structured, fufure goals and net worth, etc. If you feel like that maybe deep down you know you have plenty of firearms and you know it is superfluous. Either that or you know her attitude towards your expensive interests. My friend's wife made a deal, because he has 2 full safes of guns, he has to sell one when he buys one. They have 2 kids, payments on a new house, an F350 and saving to get an RV, maintenance on a boat, other cars... It's all a balance and at least you're telling her instead of hiding it. To me I only have one small safe of guns and don't plan on buying more. -
Time to find a new wife. Oh nevermind that's more expensive than any gun.Comment

When we see videos of steam rollers mashing thousand's of guns into scrap and buy back programs that melt guns down. A democrat rigged 2020 election, against the most Progun President since Jefferson. Building another gun would not be a priory for me.
Having a partner who could help defend our lives against whatever forces the democrats let out of prison ,might be better.Last edited by ja308; 12-30-2021, 8:07 AM.Comment

Your money, her money, our money. It works.
Remind her there are vices that would suck up money and turn it into ether as well, gambling, booze, etc. There is something tangible of value, not to mention it doesn't depreciate really. Not to mention it also is an invaluable tool should the worst occur. And it makes you happy, so if you are responsible otherwise with money and prioritize needs, she should be happy you are happy.

Swmbo's long-time hobby is jumping horses over obstacles. Her hunter flew from Rotterdam to SFO non-stop, and he has a Dutch passport.
There's never been an issue with her and $$$ for weapons.

I'm curious as to how "it's different"? The implication is that she sees the purchase (or owning) of a firearm in a negative way. Her way is ok...but yours not so much...Obviously, I'm making some assumptions about her thinking process...but it's what stood out to me in your post. My curious nature wants to explore that.
To the point of your post, I don't think it's required that she understands if she respects it. Meaning it would be ideal if she understands but it's not required imo.
I don't understand how my wife spends $$$ on purses she rarely carries but I respect you decision to do so. My guess is it gives her some sort of pleasure having a place for everything she wants to carry in a "pretty" bag. She doesn't spend out "bill" money to do it and we don't lack for food so I'm good with her doing what makes her happy.
I know I'm overthinking it but that's me...

I have my bank account and she has hers. Never tell her that you bought a new gun. My wife doesn't know what I have and she could care less. The last time I took her shooting she put a 22LR round through the cab of my truck.
If she does happen to see me opening up a new gun in a new box, I tell her that I bought it for Jameson, our grandson. Its true, he'll probably get a few of my guns, depending on what my son wants to do.It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Reminds me when I bought my new ping irons. Bragged to the transferred late Mrs JA , these clubs took 2 stroke's off my game!
She smiled, rolled her eyes and said sweetly, "Thats great Babe, only 250 a stroke !

Always add a little humor when telling about why you "need" that 10th shotgun exactly like the other 9 you already own.Comment
