We have members posting it has successfully done it, can someone post a proof like screenshot CFARS de-register successfully/complete? DOJ email? DOJ hard copy letter?

If proof have been posted, can you direct me to that thread, thank you.

Just remember that registration doesn't make a firearm an AW (RAW) and that you can reconfigure your RAW at any time. Registration is a legal protection against (successful) prosecution for "possession of an AW." In essence, if a DA wants to charge you with possession of an AW, you use registration as an exemption to the charge. However, if your firearm is NOT in an AW configuration (after you registered, you reconfigured it), then the DA cannot even begin to charge you with the possession of an AW simply because you don't possess one.

Deregistration is mostly to get off the radar, but the paperwork for registration and deregistration will still remain with the DOJ, so if they want to search those records, they can.

The letter you seek is not posted, but here is discussion about it:

His PM is deactivated, how ironic. No thread update from him since 2018.

I have seen it done, it took like a year and lots of bugging the DOJ. It was a features gun where the owner wanted to install a BB and sell it. (I was the purchaser and now own it.) I saw the letter but he would never let me make a copy and post it, even redacted.

Won't question your statement or others from past threads, however, since many have said they were successful, I'm after the proof and proof only. So far no-one has post any proof.

In your case, to me, the seller actually did a disservice to the gun community for not posting a successful de-registeratoin letter even when redact. I don't understand that one. Why not share with the gun community.

He felt like since the doj doesn't do many of them that they would be able to identify him just from the existence of the letter. Gun nuts are paranoid, what can I say.

There was a time when I had planned on making a purchase of a RAW from a friend if it could be deregistered. The rifle in question was registered even though it didn't have to be, but at the time, he did it because he lacked the information we now have.

The DOJ put up roadblocks all along the way. They wanted to use it as an excuse to come over to his house to check on the storage of his other RAWs, and when he argued that he'd rather meet at a gun store, they said they couldn't do it because they didn't want him driving around with an assault weapon.

It didn't matter that he countered that silly argument with the fact that he drove around with the same rifle whenever he took it out to the range. Nonetheless, they still demurred and would never agree to a meet anywhere other than his house to examine the rifle

Of course he said no and soon stopped communicating with them.

I know it can be done, but those jack-booted thugs in the DOJ won't make it easy.

Lol, doj came out and met my friend to inspect the RAW in a Walgreens parking lot in Oakland. I laughed my *** off when he told me this because obviously he committed a felony, Walgreens parking lots are not approved RAW destinations.

Install new lower. Take the previous one to the police station and surrender it. Done deal.

Because not all RAW's are modular like AR's.
