(Something tells me you've never shot shooting scenarios in a shoot house under time pressure and definitely never force on force. You kind of sound like the people who say 'why don't you just shoot the gun out of the assailants hand?')

I generally don't find myself in scenarios where I'm being shot at or shooting people. Yet, I still carry a firearm.

Though, it's good to know that you have confidence of the type of scenario you WON'T encounter if you're ever in a life or death situation. I wish I could do that.

22LR and 22 WMR are two different animals, sometimes they share similar (same in some cases?) bullets, but the ballistics (as seen in the Lucky Gunner charts) are not.

The shorter the barrel, the less performance you'll get out of any given ammo, other things being equal.

I think the calculus in using a smaller round with less recoil is that it's a lot easier to put lots of tiny holes where you want them, accurately and rapidly. Think 10/22 + BX25 (or 3x 10 rounders with the Alangator TriMag) with HV ammo... Accuracy of "hole placement" being more of a determinate of outcome than caliber.

A small, short barrel hand gun with limited capacity is never going to be first choice, but might maybe in some situations be better than a sharp stick. I'd probably opt for the whittlin' knife at those sorts of distances...

That said, the little NAA Mini with 22LR and 22wmr cylinders is a fairly cheap fun gun that's well made that with the folding holster grip virtually vanishes in a pocket. Probably save your bacon if you're attacked by a rabid ground squirrel, maybe something bigger with good shot placement. In a "street encounter", resistance by presenting even a small firearm might provide some deterrence. Don't bring it to a "gunfight", that's kind of a given.

They have Winchester Super-X 22LR in stock at some Big 5 Sporting Goods stores right now. You can do a stock check for your area on their website.

This is not an endorsement of 22lr as a primary defensive weapon.

Expansion to 0.34" diameter at 1200+ fps aint too shabby.

I have some Winchester Super X that just became really interesting to me. I havent seen Velocitors for years. I'm going to drive around next weekend to see if I can find a box or two.
