    Re-Barreling a Yugo SKS M59

I bought an SKS about 15yrs or so ago, and the barrel is hot garbage. Has anyone had a barrel replaced? Are there sources for new barrels, or would one have to be a special order kind of thing?

Swapping barrels on an SKS is a full barrel population job because if you get a take-off barrel with all the parts on it, it's not going to screw into the receiver and align correctly.
Figure on having to press everything off the barrel, then thread the barrel into the reciever and correct headspace before you press all the parts back on.
Don't forget to drill a new gas port since the old one won't be in proper alignment.
I have done a couple of these jobs.
It's almost easier to sell the shot-out rifle and buy one with a better barrel.

Hrm... that's a valid point you bring up. I have no clue who might purchase a shot out rifle though hahaha. Might just have to eat the cost and find another one. Damn shame cuz I bought this back when they were cheap as hell with two M59/66s. I ended up selling the M59/66s for extra cash, keeping the M59 thinking I could get it rebarreled

I will definitely keep you in mind. I'm gonna start searching for another M59, and if I find one I like, I'll give you first crack at my old one.

You can probably sell it for parts pretty fast. Probably make more than selling a shot out rifle. M59s are more rare than 59/66. I had one and regretted selling it as soon as I put it in the buyers hand. I never found another fir sale. I recently picked up the closest thing a Chinese 59.

That's a job to install a new barrel. This is not an AR.

most of the time you can get better accuracy from a recessed crown job or you could make a yugo paratrooper
