Need advice for shooting with dog

Planning to travel to desert with fam and friends, will have to bring a small dog with us. 6 lbs, Yorkshire. If we are shooting in open space in desert, how far would we have to be to not damage the hearing of the dog?

Far. I would get tranquilizers and knock the pup out. They get absolutely terrified and will tear up the inside of your car trying to get out adnb away, and if it gets out, it will run FAR.

Some dogs are fine around fireworks and gunfire.

Dog in the car should be fine
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

If you're lucky a hawk might get it. 6 pound dogs are barely dogs....I kid...but still barely dogs.

Think about using a kennel, insulated if possible, leave in the car in the shade with the windows cracked. Good luck!

Leave the dog in the car with the windows down 50’ away and it will be fine. If it freaks out, move the car another 100’. For those little rat dogs it’s more about anxiety than hearing safe. Hunting dogs sit in the duck blind or run around you as you shoot.

Ty for advice, what would you recommend to insulate the kennel?

12 Effective Ways to Protect Your Hunting Dog’s Hearing

On a side note: If you have a way to measure the decibels, that will be the crux of determining how far away the dog needs to be.

Phone app. I have one called "Sound Meter". I make no guarantees as to its scientific accuracy but it's better than eyeballing (ear-balling?) it.

A GPS tracker isn't a reasonable purchase for a one day affair, but dogs in general are hard enough to see/find when they run off into the desert, a six pounder would be virtually impossible.

A couple guys in my 4x4 club love setting off mortars and bottle rockets while we're sitting around the campfire.
They scare the hell out of Remy so now when they want to shoot that sh*t off they tell me first and I put Remy in the Jeep and go do a little night wheeling away from the campsite.
