I just realized how much prices have increased. I flipped through a 2005 Midway catalog and saw that Wolf went for $90/1000. How on earth did prices go up 66% in one year??

If you think THAT'S bad, try looking for non-Wolf, non-steel-cased, non-steel core 7.62x39mm. Fiocci wasn't a bad price at Turner's a while back, at $9.99/20... *boggle*

It's the same thing with 5.56 going up, the only problem is that there aren't very many American based companies that produced cheap 7.62x39 so once demand hit, and everyone paniced and started stock piling, it skyrocketed.
From what I have heard, it is NOT that Wolf goes to the military, it is that the plant flips over to war production. Same way a lot of companies state side switched to war product productions during WWII and made firearms, ammo, vehicles, etc. The Wolf factories, and their contractors, switched over to loading for their respective government contracts and the civilian stuff was put off until daily quotas were made. There is a now a good surplus of ammo for their contracts, and they are able to dedicate more and more time to civilian productions which is why you are seeing it come in now when it used to be a rare sight for half a year. Prices should start to come back down, I think a LOT of the price jump is the dealer themselves. You can still see it for fairly cheap online at some places (maybe not the less than $2/20 it was in the good old days) but it is NOWHERE near the $6/20 Turners is asking for it.
