    How to store pistols?

I currently have 10 pistols (revolvers and semi-auto). I expect to purchase at least 10 more in the future. I've been looking for ways to store my pistols that is convenient to me. Right now, they are scattered among various cases and bags. Ideally, I would like to put them in cabinet drawers that I can pull out. My constraints are:

    1. I moved to Colorado and I have a basement in which the previous owner created a "gun room". Nothing fancy. I use it as my reloading area and long gun storage. The door is steel plated.

    2. No way we are getting a real safe down there. Stairway is too narrow and there is no other outside access.

I was looking for a Stack-on cabinet (I have one for long guns), but I don't like what is offered for pistols.

I really like the idea of using a harbor freight tool cabinet with all the drawers. I can move it into the basement "gun room" easily and it fits my budget. It has a lock too.

Anyone have any suggestions better than this? Or perhaps a good cabinet to use?

    Thanks.

    Look up "skinny safes".

There are a number of them out there that are probably thinner than you are.

Mostly made for rifles, but a trip to Home Depot and you can probably find some shelving.

    Humidity is your enemy.
Buy a "goldenrod" heater of the proper size.

If the Harbor Freight cabinet can be sealed up decently, sounds reasonable.

Some gun bags (foam mostly) are notorious for holding some moisture and causing rust.

So, I really don't want to build shelves for a skinny safe. I'm not that handy.

I already monitor the humidity in the gun room. Its pretty dry in Colorado to my surprise.

What do you mean "sealed up"? Sealed from humidity or sealed from unauthorized access?

If it's already going to be in a locked gun. room, I kind of like the idea of the Craftsman-style tool box.

As far as humidity, Colorado is high desert, so it's really dry, especially in the winter. It's hell on guitars.

You could also use magnets. I keep a few handguns in with my long guns simply by using magnets inside the safe walls.

Or something like this that could sit on a shelf mounted to the wall in your gun room:

          This
The SnapSafe® Super Titan Double Door features fourteen 1-inch chrome steel live locking bolts and a sledgehammer, pry-bar resistant 3/16” solid-steel door, which provide professional grade protection not found in most residential safes.

          With 2 of these
Easily organize, display, and store up to 9 pistols in this simple to install holster...

And 2 of these under that^
Add on feature makes expansion easy!  Just add additional racks to fully utilize the entire storage space your gun safe.

Both, but I meant sealed from humidity.

I think you glanced over the part where the OP states that the stairway is narrow and no way a normal size safe would be possible.

                How to store pistols?

You could also look at underbed gun storage ideas. You could probably stack a couple of needed.
You could also look at storage options at uline for ideas.

                  @vinnie,

What oldmanDan posted is modular. You can break it down and move it into the room piece by piece. Ive been seeing more about these recently. Apparently good for apartment dwellers who can't just wheel in a large safe.

                    Here's another one. Expensive though.

Generally I'm a fan of something that you can control the environment in, by way of a golden rod, a jumbo can of desiccant, and a hygrometer (humidity meter).

So a standard mechanics box with drawers probably isn't going to work. Something like a Home Depot Rigid job box, however, could work if it has an opening for an electric cord (which I believe it does). And those are probably more secure than a mechanics box.

                        They make skinny safes.

How about a stack on iwc-22 or iwc-55.

So long as you can find two studs you can mount them in any wall. They aren't that deep but the basically take no space since they are inserted into the wall. If you can cut dry wall and insert 4 screws you can install it yourself.

Zanetti Armor modular safe would be one option.
