Gun from another state

Hey guys, so I found the gun that I was looking for. However, it's in another state and it's off roster. From what my friend told me, he said if the person did a consignment with the dealer and it's off roster then I could get it. But, in order for this to happen, does everything have to be in California for this to work?

It makes no sense that there are guns that are has the rounds of California standard but yet can't sell it. I get it, it's off roster. I could move to another state and get the same gun with more magazine ammos, why would I get the same gun but with 9+1?

Please help me understand how this all works. I'm confused... thanks!

Unfortunately No. Off Roster guns can not be shipped to California. That is the whole point of the roster, to make it hard to get guns.

Plus it is illegal for you to buy mags over 10 rounds in California or have them shipped here.

Here's the deal with Handguns.

You have to be a resident in the state where you transfer the handgun through your local FFL.

Those handguns that are processed through an FFL or basically, the inventory of the FFL need to be on the roster.

I'll skip the exemptions, but for your situation, you need to acquire the desired handgun by a CA resident who owns it and buy it used from them through an FFL here in CA. You both have to be CA residents. In the event the seller is not a CA resident, then the gun needs to be on the Roster.

That's the gist of it.

Find it used, here in CA owned by a CA seller.

Oh: you both have to be present in person at the FFL. a CA resident still can't ship a gun from a CA location to a CA FFL for transfer. It would have to be on the roster.

Remember you are in a state that hates guns and everything makes sense. You CAN "get around" the roster in two ways:

1. PPT. Off roster guns are priced at what the market will bear. Figure a $400 gun can sell for $1,200-$2,000. Nope, I am NOT kidding.

2. It is legal for a son/grandson/great..., daughter/granddaughter/great..., father/grandfather/great... or mother/grandmother/great... in another state to gift you an off-roster firearm. This rule does NOT cover any other relatives, like son-in-law, step-daughter, uncle, cousin and so on. The firearm needs to go through an FFL. 3. There is no third rule. That's about it.

You cannot buy off roster guns from out of state even if they are on consignment with a dealer.

You can only buy off roster guns if they are on consignment with a **CA** dealer, and you personally go to that dealer to do paperwork and pickup. There can be no shipping.

This of course assumes the gun in question is not roster exempt (like single shot, single action etc)

You just gotta pay the CA off roster premium if you want an off roster firearm here...

You didnt say what firearm it is. I'm assuming its modern. If it so happens that its 50 years or older, its C&R and is exempt from the roster.
