Only handguns have to be in locked container and anything that can be locks is ok. Backpack, etc. Assault weapons must be in locked case as well/ You should look up and read transporting firearms in vehicle in ca

'Disassembly' does not change the items into something other than handguns or rifles.

All guns unloaded in locked container with no ammo in the container.

Use urban Camouflage on all containers with valuables inside.

Ask those persons who want to argue with this post if they will commit to paying for the loss of your
guns, and all legal fees remotely associated with being arrested for non compliance with hundreds
of capricious and arbitrary California State Laws concerning firearms.

Buy a bunch of the $2 tsa combo locks.

            Lock everything

Should you get stopped it helps make things easier.

            You are up front

Guns are in rear of suv and locked.

To me - officer safety is not a valid concern.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

HANDGUNS Pursuant to California Penal Code section 25610, a United States citizen over 18 years of age who is not prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, may transport by motor vehicle any handgun provided it is unloaded and locked in the vehicle’s trunk or in a locked container. Furthermore, the handgun must be carried directly to or from any motor vehicle for any lawful purpose and, while being carried must be contained within a locked container.

              All unloaded of course.

Good advice...most of the soft cases can be locked with the zipper and ring at the closing end.

1k feet from a school is always in play but not supporter very much by local pd. If you have my luck you'll get that one guy.

I live one block from elementry school. And 1/2 mile to junior college.
Buy those cheap TSA combo locks. You can change the combo on them.
Campus.police can pull you over. I worry about them more than regular police.
Most people dont think campus.police.can pull you over.
I have a SUV and van. No trunk. Cheap locks work.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Ammo can be in container, just not in gun.

This myth won't die. You can have ammo in the same case. Just make sure gun is unloaded. Stop perpetuating FUD.

Also, NEVER answer questions at a traffic stop, particularly when firearms in the car. Identify yourself if asked and provide ID, insurance, reg and shut up. Once you tell them there are guns in the car, they get to inspect if they choose....bad idea. COP "how are you tonight? YOU "Fine". COP "where you headed tonight OR Do you know why I pulled you over, etc. YOU "Officer, I know you're just doing your job, but I'm not going to answer any questions." (Hands on wheel the whole time) take your ticket and go.

Years ago I bought a large bag of luggage locks from Amazon all keyed the same. I just leave them hooked to all of my pistol and rifle bags
