Gun Magnets, under desk type, any experience with them?

Magnets from old harddrives work well in or out of safes. Two held a 870 shotgun to a metal bed frame years ago when I had a shotgun.

Not all the magnets are the same size so you may need a few drive to find what you want. Computer places used to dump them, but don't know about today.

I have this one attached to the back of an old desk, works very well. I do have the butt of the 870 resting on the floor so that helps as well. The shot gun rests against it. It would easily hold a handgun upside down.

I have a rubber coated Allen magnet ~1" x 3" in my "office" (aka game) room where I spend most of the time.

It is mounted on the side wall of my desk far enough back so I do not knock it off, but easily in reach. Not visible unless you look at the right angle.

No kids, visitors do not generally go in my office, locked at night and when we are not home or have people over.

Obviously every situation is different. Maybe I worry too much, but anytime I have a loaded gun in my house, it is either on my person, or secured in some sort of locking case.

Doesn't anyone worry about having someone getting in between you and your loaded gun? Whether it be a visit from a irresponsible friend, a kid or an intruder. Or coming home to someone who has burglarized your home and found it.

Same here. All my defensive guns handguns stay chambered, so they are always holstered whether on my body or in my handgun safe. If I want even quicker access I can pre-punch all or part of the Simplex lock, or just leave it open since it's holstered when it presents it to me. I have done this at night when I am home alone because I am a heavy sleeper and depend on the Mrs. to tell me she heard something.

Just close it when leaving and it's secured from unwanted hands. This way I also don't have to worry about anyone that might come to the house like repairmen, friends, etc. No chance of their grubby paws on my guns!

I have one under my desk at the office. If something is happening that makes me uncomfortable I will draw from my CCW holster and stick it on the magnet. Sitting I can draw faster from the magnet then from concealment.


Two issues.

1) occasionally a paperclip will start to dance on top of my desk making clients eyes get real big

2) on two occasions a client went to pay me and I suspect set their Credit Card right over the magnet wiping their card.

Does gun magnets magnetize the gun over periods of use?

Is that good, bad, or no concern?


Wouldn't want a magnetized gun as carry to find out it attracted unforseen debris to cause a barrel obstruction when most needed.
