Cool. Are these from Maglite themselves, or a 3rd party? Got a linky to mfgr?

Does the module have decent regulation on it so all LEDs equal, no thermal runaway, etc?

Restricted to 2 D lights, or do they have versions for the 5 D-cell lights? (Talk about long-life illumination!)

I have the 2D 4D and 5D Maglites (though maybe Mom has my 5D).

I've heard issues w/cheap-arsed LED conversions.... LED lifetime, regulation issues, etc.

I assume Maglite took long enough that they might've done it right...

I hope they aren't like the $18 "3 watt" ones I got from Target (lost receipt) it was about as bright as a paper match.

I was disappointed with my maglite branded LED module. The difference wasn't that great and it cost almost as much as the maglite.

Non flashaholics will think I am insane for posting a drop in module that costs more than the light itself, but there is another drop in available using the K2 LED for the maglites.

The K2 are the next generation that came after the Luxeon LEDs, which preceded the even older 5mm LED's. However, if you are patient, there is another company which is making the CREE LED which eventually will make the K2 look old.

Are you saying it was worse than regular lamp? Or just essentially no different?

If the latter case, that's OK - same brightness, far longer battery life due to far less heat generated...

                    Review

It should be brighter than the default bulb. Here's a review of the LED module.

It was a while ago. But as I recall, it seemed just a tad dimmer.
