Last Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot

Recently we attended the last Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot and it was extremely busy .
Any time during the 2 day event Friday and Sat there was a 2 hour wait and 5 mile lines of vehicle's in both directions!
Once in, there were buses and mules to transport up to the firing line, gun show and main buildings .

The delightful roar of mini guns could be heard for miles and they fired frequently , as did all sorts of other NFA guns.

We met several nice people while having hot dogs and everyone was friendly and gay. Several people were wearing anti Biden shirts and many had Trump/NRA/ hats shirts and other patriot themes.

I searched out Kenny and thanked him for all the good times we enjoyed over the years. We talked briefly and he said the shoot is just too much work. This was confirmed by his son Chad.
There is a possibility sometimes the future they might put it on again, but that doesn't seem promising at this time.

On the way back we made a side trip to Shooters Grill in Rifle Colorado . This is the place where open carry is featured by patrons and waitress's !
We had a great breakfast and young waitress was wearing a Taurus self loading 40 cal.
All throughout the restaurant were patriot themes, of posters, Flags, rifles on the wall etc.
An older couple on the way out stopped at our table and the gentleman said," I can tell you are Patriots by your smiles. I have a Joe Biden joke. "What did Joe Biden say this AM? Who pooped in My Pants ".....

Those going through Colorado will enjoy visiting Shooters Grill owned by the Great Colorado Rep.Lauren Boebert.

Oh I was wearing jeans and carried a custom stainless 1911 with White Knight grips.
FWIW I was the best dressed man there.

I wish I had known you were there...it would have been good to meet you and buy you a beer for all your pro NRA/2A/pro Reublican positions here on the forum! I had always wanted to go and since it was the last one of my friends who brought the three M5A1 Stuart tanks asked me to come out as their guests...and happily, they gave me a pass for the weekend that got me around all lines. I did get out to help ground guide the tanks on and off the field on Saturday.

What an amazing event. I almost went to do the Huey ride but got distracted by the amazing REAL GUN SHOW they had there...only one Jerky seller in the whole place... So much cool stuff I wanted and could afford but our masters in Sacramento say I cant have. I was also impressed by how friendly everyone I met in Kentucky is...there really is something to that Southern hospitality thing.

Is that the same area is where the sub gun and Shotgun Jungle walk courses were held this time ?

Considering this event has been twice a year for 50 years. I wonder what effect it will have on the local economy? I guess surrounding area's will notice it.

Through the years we have visited and toured Churchill Downs Racetrack, Jim Beam tasting facility, Steven Fosters, My Old Kentucky Home, some classic car events and recently, The George Patton museum .
We surmised Old Blood and Guts smiled from above as we ignored the "must wear a mask sign".

I think the Big Sandy event could gain traction and provide another venue for us to enjoy the sports of Free people. The promoters are very friendly and helpful, with suggestions and information.

As for meeting over a beer, what part of town do you live in? Do you do any competitive shooting? Photos were of the main range as far as I know...it was next to the range house and where the tanks shot from.

I doubt it. It's a long way from the east coast. Back when SOF used to run, only the most fanatical of mg'ers came all the way out to Vegas. Big Sandy is weak sauce in comparison for the average person. It's built pretty much only for people that want to shoot their mg's. It'll never be more than a shadow of what Knob was.

The easiest way to tell what the main range at Knob is, it's next to all the grandstands set up for people to watch the night shoot. It's basically next to the pole barn.

It is a fair distance from population centers, yet that range is a gold mine with 10s of thousands visiting every year and it would seem inflation proof.

Although I don't know taxes, insurance and other costs, it would seem 17 mill is a bargain if it includes everything. Maybe some affluent shooters, those with the miniguns and private planes, will see a good business opportunity and continue the events. Once a year might even be more profitable ?

You could very well be correct, although in lots of years a good portion of the property is under water.

Kentucky seems too have lots of available land closer to cities where development might be more advantageous.

No, the offer is coming from a very large defense contractor who would continue to use it as a private range/training center/headquarters. The range would be a Superfund clean up site with all the lead and contaminants in the ground. Prior to it being a private range for the last 50 years or so, it was used by the US Navy to test fire naval guns. The clean up needed to make it legally fit for housing development would be economically unfeasible.

It's not good land for houses or anywhere near where people would want to live.
There's MUCH more available land closer to where people would want to live.

I recall talking about the KCMS with some guys while enjoying the whirlpool in a Louisville hotel .
One asked where it was located and used the old west rhyme.
Here lies Less Moore, 4 shots from a 44, No less No more . Yeah its hyw 44.

That was the year George W Bush sent a check for 300 bucks and that paid for our room and more.

I stayed at a chain motel along the highway, near or in a small town. No hassle with Louisville traffic, and closer to Knob.
