    Leguna Seca Range

What's the news on Leguna Seca range in Salinas? Interwebs lists the range closed due to Covid.

Haven't been in a while but was out there earlier this year, not sure if something has changed since then. Heres a link to a web page with more info.

Is this the same as Laguna Seca?

It’s on the same property as the race track. All of which was previously on the grounds of Fort Ord.

The race track has been there a long time. I doubt it was on Fort Ord property, but it's near there.

That must have been before 1970 because I lived in ear shot of the race track my entire life, and shot my first 22 rifle arounds at the range.

Fort Ord closing started getting smaller in the early 90's and finally closed completely in 1994. None of the property was handed over to the public until after that and both the range and the track where there long before that.

            ***********

The Fort Ord property line was adjacent to my neighborhood. I'd take my BMX bike on Fort Ord grounds and come home with a belt of unfired 7.62 blanks. Once a helicopter flew over head, and we (my friend and I) thought we were being clever and hid from it under a tree. Then moments later a couple of MP's came down to us in a jeep, and of all things, just told us to be careful.

            Oh those were the days............

Who remembers when Laguna Seca (the track portion) had a giant pond, and you could literally rent/drive around these mini speed boats and race each other like one can with go-karts?

Sigh......... I was way too young to get to drive those, and they were long gone before I got old enough.

Where was the pond? In the infield or over by turn 8?
