.45 ACP doesn't benefit all that much from compensators but then neither does 9mm unless we're going into +p+ pressure levels. If fast shot to shot transition is important, just stick with non-compensated 9mm.

Seems like 9mm would suit you better. Nighthawks are so fun to shoot!

To add............ I built up a Glock 34 into an Open Race gun.

I took the long road, and chased cheap and bling at first. So to begin with I used a small compensator. In the long run I wasn't able to get it gun to really feel all that different with only the small compensator. This included all my reloading R&D where I have three different bullet weights, slow, medium, and fast powders, and then recoil springs from 11lbs all the way to 22lbs.

I finally did get a Open gun configuration I am happy with, but it includes a much larger compensator 3 ports along the top and 2 on each side for a total of 7. There really is only one size larger of compensator that is even considerable, but that's for insanely hot loads.

Anyway............ I don't think a compensator with a single port is going to really feel anywhere near a flat shooing race gun.

Also, if you are not a reloader, you're going to handicap yourself with limited ammo that will work with the thing. You'll probably end up having to buy hotter defense ammo to make it work, and for competition that's generally counter intuitive to the cost of the sport.

Sounds like 9mm is the way to go. I’m still not sure why but there has to be a reason why top 2011 makers like Stacatto and Infinity arms are all making 9mm and not so much .45
