    Gun Transfer

Hello Calguns! This is my first post and it has to do with an interfamilial gun transfer. We filled out the paperwork about 2 months ago and sent it in. My son went to go buy ammo a couple of days ago to see if it went through and the ammo store said no go. How do I find out if it went through or was denied?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you mailed in the form with your $19.00 it used to take a couple months. Now its running almost 9 months

        Yes.

Be sure to retain a copy of the form and the cancelled check just in case anyone asks.

Don't have a copy of the form I mailed in- he might have the stub to the cashiers check and he has sent in the money with the form but the ammo store told him it was a no go.
Edgerly 779 who does he pay the 19 buck to- the DOJ? If so he already sent it in.
Is there a site on the DOJ where we can check the status?

He can do it at ffl that sells ammo. Or he can register another fiream for 19 bucks with doj . I don't know time frame for that. At ffl within 10 days he is ok to buy ammo.

He would pay a $19 fee for an ammo background check (assuming CA) then that would have him in the ammo purchasing system.

Federal Firearms Licensee - in context, your gun store.

Mailing in the OPLAW form takes a long time for confirmation. SEVERAL MONTHS MINIMUM.

Because it relies on the interaction, and job performance of UNDERWORKED, ...OVERPAID ...USELESS BUMS. Employed by the Ca-DOJ-BOF. And protected from any real world efficiency by their PUBLIC SECTOR GOVERMENT UNION.

Next time sign into the Ca DOJ CFARS site and file/pay for the OPLAW online.

Summary This rulemaking action specifies how an individual can create a CFARS account. Sections Affected California Code of Regulations, Title 11, Division 5, Chapter 12, 39 and 41 Sections: 4340, 5473, 5474, 5512, 5513 Status of the Proposal This rulemaking is complete. On May 28, 2019 the Office of Administrative Law approved the Department of Justice’s regulations regarding the California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) and filed them with the Secretary of State. This regulation becomes effective on July 1, 2019.

Realistic efficiency of Ca-DOJ is on a par with Ca DMV and EDD.

Rather than waiting the several months for the doj letter confirming reg wouldn't getting a COE be faster? Or, at the very least, be more convenient to buy ammo in future assuming one doesn't have firearm calibers associated to themselves?

Just to clarify: To buy ammo without doing the CA instant background check every time, or buying online, one needs not only a COE, they must apply, and qualify for 03FFL.

The details are available on the DOJ website.

Even with 03 and COE you must do a background check every time when buying ammo from a licensed ammo vendor or FFL inside CA.

03 FFL w/COE will let you buy from out of state vendors or private parties within CA, but it does nothing for you when going to Bass Pro or Turners to buy ammo. You still have to get in line and do one of the three available background checks. And it turns out the DL check is easiest, because most of these workers have no idea how to do a COE check.
