UPS tracks each package from the wrap to delivery. SOMEBODY signed off for it. If it's truly gone, notify the authorities and get compensated by UPS.Comment

most likely it was put aside in one of the sorting facilities and then whoever put it there forgot about it....
had that happen may times with our shipments from my old work.Originally posted by leelawBecause -ohmigosh- they can add their opinions, too?Originally posted by SoCalSig1911Preppers canceled my order this afternoon because I called them a disgrace... Shipping companies ship packages to various hubs and often times, things get lost/mixed up along the way. It could literally be in the back of some UPS truck or in the wrong 'holding' area. In any event, if they can't find it, then request them to start the claims process for a lost item.
Technically, they're suppose to scan it periodically but sometimes this doenst happen. UPS automatically insures up to "x" dollar value. You'd have to contact them to see what that amount is. Beyond that, it would have been up to you to add extra insurance to properly cover the value of the item. Hopefully the item isn't high priced and/or you paid for the additional insurance.
Definitely start documenting who youv'e spoken with and at what times. Get their names and if they're assigning case numbers to this 'incident' get those as well. UPS will work with you on this as they're responsible for the item while in transit.
IIRC, UPS has a mandatory 'wait' time they have before declaring an item officially lost. They may not be willing to provide full support unless this time has elapsed- so make sure you understand their rules for starting claims.
The wrapping container is not critical beyond a certain point. UPS mainly cares that you carefully wrap the box so that it doesnt fail or open up during transit. Since the item is only a rifle, it doenst need anything else like hazmat/biohazard documentation. I would honestly avoid any markings that say RIFLE or GUN. You want to be a brown box in a sea of them. Anything that makes you stick out is likely to cause just that, attention. This isn't the USPS. The shipping information is inputted and then printed out to a label via the UPS. They affix tracking labels on all freight, so despite whatever hand written address you may have on the box, the dood in the brown suit is only going to look at what's printed on the label.
I use to work for a shipping company. Stuff got lost/destroyed/misplaced all the time. They'll work with you, but you need to understand they deal with 100,000's of packages on a daily basis. Remember, the person on the phone is NOT the person in the warehouse that's going to be digging through and re-scanning all those boxes.. Yelling, cursing at her likely won't help. Just provide as much info as possible, and specifically ask what's going to happen in each 'phase' of the claim. Definitely get direct numbers and extensions so you dont have to sit and wade through the automated prompts.
Good luck.Aloha snackbar!Comment

UPS recently lost an incoming rifle shipment to me.
1) Rifle was shipped via UPS "Overnight before 10:30AM" shipping.
2) UPS website showed that the package had arrived at the Baldwin Park location, and was on the truck for delivery.
3) 10:30 AM comes and goes, the FFL (Entreprise Arms) never calls me to say they received it, so I called UPS.
4) UPS CS guy hems and haws for a while, puts me on hold, finally comes back and tells me they don't know what happened to the package. Apparently, it never actually arrived at the Baldwin Park hub, even though the tracking info said it did. Tells me that I have to have the shipper initiate a claim, but that he has to wait 24 hours before reporting it missing, then they'll investigate it and get back within 30 days. I tell him how extremely unhappy I am, he tells me "sorry, that's the way it goes, there's nothing more we can do about it at this time".
5) I think about this for a while, do a bit of research on the ATF website and call UPS back. This time I tell them that the missing package contains a firearm, and that I will have to report it lost or stolen to the ATF and to my local police dept. He tells me he'll have to look into it, and he'll call me back within an hour. He never calls back.
6) At 4:45PM Entreprise calls me and says my gun was just delivered.
7) I go to Entreprise to do the 4473 and ask about their receipt of the gun. Guy tells me that it was delivered, not by their regular UPS guy, but by two UPS big-shots driving a UPS pickup truck.
Bottom line, I guess, is that UPS doesn't give a crap about losing your package until you tell them it's a firearm and will have to be reported to the ATF as stolen, then they jump through hoops to find it.sigpic

So the moral of the story is.... even if you ship a non-firearm item via UPS and they lose it, just tell them it's a firearm anyways and they'll magically find it for you.Comment
