    PPT PROCESS

hi, quick question, when you are purchasing a firearm by PPT... do you pay the individual before or after the DROS process?

Most will say after inspection but before DROS.

I usually pay or ask to get paid while the dealer is doing the paperwork, meaning each person has provided the dealer proper ID and the buyer has also inspected the gun and given the dealer all the other required documents needed to be successful.

PS - I also usually suggest you *know* you will pass a CA background before doing a PPT.

In CA, *knowing* you'll pass is not the same as knowing you have a clean record. You should have passed other CA firearms background checks before doing a PPT as a buyer - in my opinion.

Because if you get denied or delayed, then all sorts of complications arise that may leave you with no gun, and no money.

It is also a good idea to make sure the FFL will release on 'undetermined' status, but just as many wont that will and you may not have much of a choice depending on your seller and/or location.

Is that the same even for an off roster gun?

it doesn't matter what gun or what the roster status is. There should be no difference in the procedure.

Before dros signed and usually before started. Never after dros.

This. After a quick inspection and the seller has handed the dealer the gun.

The one time I ppt from a stranger payment had to be outside and we did it after the dros.

This has happened to me as well. The FFL specifically didn't want us to transfer money in the store.

I've been asked by the FFL to exchange cash outside, but I always did it before the DROS as buyer and seller.

Selling or buying, this is the way I've always done it. Some FFL's don't like money being exchanged in the store, however, I've never gotten an answer that made sense as to why they didn't want the money exchange in the store.

Also, as a buyer, please make sure that you can pass the background check. It certainly makes it awkward for everyone if the buyer doesn't pass, and it's a waste of time for the seller!

                          1. Treat all guns as if loaded (even when you know they aren't).
                          2. Never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
                          3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
                          4. Know your target and what is beyond it (avoid all collateral damage).
