Places to shoot in LA

Ok, so I'm pretty sure I'll be moving to LA (SGV area) in August, so I'll need to find new places to shoot. A quick look online and I think I narrowed where I'd LIKE to shoot down to Burro Canyon in Duarte (which will really motivate me to get that 10/22 or Savage mkii) and/or Bristow in Commerce.

For anyone that shoots in Bristow, what's the deal there? Especially with the NRA gun safety course.

Also, is there somewhere else you'd recommend in the west SGV area? Cost is my #1 concern, I really don't care how nice the facilities are as long as I don't get shot at and as of right now I only have a couple pistols so I'm not that concerned w/being able to shoot hundreds of yards

Burro is pretty cool.

So is Angeles range (www.angelesranges.com), but that's a bit further away from you. On the other hand, they've got a reloading store, which is nice.

I'd drive down to Insight in Artesia, or OC Indoor Range for all your indoor needs. A little further and you have Firing Line in Huntington Beach and ON-Target in Laguna Niguel.

Insight, On-Target, and Firing Line charges a daily fee but OC Indoor Range charges by the hour but they sell monthly passes. LPFR charges by the hour and their fees have gone up. There is LA Gun Club but unless you buy their ammo, they charge by the hour as well.

Outdoor you have Burro and Angeles.

Burro Canyon is like the wild west during the weekends. You'd probably be safer as a cameraman at a Tactical Response class than a few hours at Burro Canyon.

Check out Angeles Range. It's tough to beat the swinging steel on both the pistol and rifle ranges, and the ROs there do a great job of making a safe environment.


Raahaughes and Prado isn't too far away either. Hop on the 57 to the 71.

Angeles is nice for outdoor. I personally like the Firing line in Northridge a lot for indoor.

And if you want a less crowded, more mellow outdoor range, A place to shoot, out in Saugus (north of the valley by Magic Mountain) is pretty cool, if you feel like the longer drive.

Outdoor Range

I love A Place To Shoot in San Francisquito Cyn. Wide open. Well managed.
It's not much more than a big canyon but I love the place and the people.
You can shoot handguns, plinkers, rifles and clay birds. Not as nice as Angeles
but not nearly as crowded. It has a relatively low shmo ratio.

Yeah I heard it's wild at Burro shooting range. I'm remember back in the 80s I use to go shoot at SGV Gun club. It's unfortunate they closed down. I remembered the the range officer during cease fire if you crossed that yellow line he'd yell at you!

Where exactly is the shooting range at Angeles? Do they allow you to shoot anything you bring out there, costs, etc. I'm thinking of buying one of those metal plinking targets that resets. Any info would be appreciated.

I went to the very last day at SGVGC, it was a lot of fun. They let us go all out, rapid fire and all. Lots of ammo wasted but it was worth it to annoy the residences nearby.


Angeles is off of Osborne/210fwy. Past the ranger station, its right across the road from a paintballing range. $14 for all day, coupon online. No need to bring metal targets, their steel on the rifle side go from 200-600 yards. Pistol side from 35,50,70, and 100 yards. Plenty of steel to plink at.

It's called a club yet there is no membership available? Strange.

Anyways they have: flat fee ($12), rapid fire (w/your gun), Asian tourists, date night, broads in heels, gangstas, and they are GSG-5 friendly.

Gets crowded, but never a wait.
