    Let's talk Mossberg 590

I bought my Mossberg 590SP from Buds on 2/24/17. It was $350.00 and $364.62 delivered to 2AZone. I got it a couple months after I bought a Maverick 88 from Big 5.

I put a rail on it with a ghost ring sight and front bead, nothing expensive. It shoots slugs accurate as any other shotgun I have, probably better..

I've got a couple real nice Remington Shotguns that I guess we'd call safe queens. I bought these two Mossbergs so I could keep the Rems nice for my son and future grandsons.

I think these shotguns are one of the best deals offered to the gun world. I used to be a hater but that changed real fast once I started shooting the Maverick and then the 590.

I really don't think there's a better self defense shotgun out there. It's just a mean looking gun.
    What do you think?

Let's hear your thoughts and improvements on this fine shotgun.

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Congratulations on your choices and your forward-thinking about keeping the 870s in great condition for your children or grandchildren.

Of course it depends what you grew up with and what you trained with but personally I really prefer the location of the Mossberg 500 series (including the 590) tang safety mounted right where your thumb sits, right under your eyeball as you look down the barrel you instantly know whether you're on safe or not. No fumbling around by the trigger guard without the help of vision. That location also makes it completely ambidextrous and almost a no-brainer to use safely.
I also really prefer the location of the action / slide release button / push up lever, right by the trigger and your finger, instead of way out in front of the trigger guard like it is on the Remington 870 s.

And then there's also the famous military testing where the Mossberg 590A1 was able to handle 3000 rounds of 00 buckshot without malfunctioning...

(Below is the memorable advertisement that Mossberg used back when that happened.)

"The Remington 870 is also a great shotgun, no doubt, but keep in mind it was the 590A1 that passed the military’s torture test, which says a lot about its capabilities and quality."

I recently picked up a 590A1 Retrograde for about $1k out the door. Was it pricey? Yep. Could i have had a regular 590A1 for cheaper? Probably, but not through the CG marketplace. These guns have been hard to find and the retrograde, even harder.

Now do i love the gun? YES INDEED! While it does have the nicer furniture, I fully intend to run the gun. None of my guns are safe queens. And by the time my 2 year old son is ready to have this gun, it will hopefully have a nice patina for him.

I got one of the 590A1's that Buds had on sale for $550ish a couple years back... It's my only Mossberg. I love it. I picked up some surplus wood stock and corncob furniture. It definitely looks more aggressive. The action was smooth right out the box.

I like mine the way it is. If I'm gonna add anymore accessories, then MAAAAYBE a side saddle of sorts.

Great choice, a lot of positive reviews about the 590.

Sticking a M9 bayonet on the 590-A1 makes it look even meaner.

I guess the heat shields are passe' now, but I think they make it look tough.

                    I duck hunt with a camo 500. I upland hunt and skeet shoot with a black/wood 500.

My HD shotgun is a 590 that wears a side-saddle and M-9 bayonet (it's not for clearing a house, it's for defending a room full of wife and kids).

I like that the manual of arms and fit is basically the same, so the rapid target engagement and speedloading techniques I've learned when hunting should work about the same with my HD shotgun if necessary.

I like the ambi safety on Mossbergs so much that I picked up a 16" marinekoted 464 as a brush/deer gun.

Mossberg makes the Retrograde model with walnut stock and heat shield, shades of an old trench shotgun look:

                        That retrograde is purdy...

I picked up a 590 with iron sights for I think 350 bucks. The only thing I did was swap to wood furniture off of a old 500 I was selling cause I couldnt stand the unbalanced feel with the thin lightweight hollow plastic stock. The wood stock and pump grip definitely made it more balanced feel. Other than shooting targets I haven’t done anything to it for 18 years. Oh well I did add a side saddle a few years ago that I got for free on a trade. I guess I can stick a bayo on the mag tube

I have a marinecote 590A1. I put a 12in lop stock on it and side saddle. Swapped the safety to a metal bit that sticks out a bit more and threw on a tritium bead. It's a great home defense set up

I have a 590. If I could do it again I would buy the basic 500. Nothing wrong with the 590 but the 500 is shorter and lighter, and that’s what I want in a shotgun: big boom in a small package.

My 590 has been great. I’m jonesing for a Berett 1301 though.
