Smaller mom and pop FFL will more likely receive Ammo
They have a right to stay in business and make a profit. Politely figure out what they charge to receive and transfer the Ammo to you before you use them.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Whatever
There is no pre-established FFL fee for handling an out-of-state ammo transfer. The FFL will have to charge you the appropriate ammo fee, as set by the state ($1 if you qualify for the standard fee, $19 if you don't) see CA Ammo Fee. Also, if the seller did not charge tax and show it on their receipt, the FFL has to charge you that. Then there is whatever ammo fee that particular FFL is charging. A quick Google search turned up a variety:
$50/5000 rounds
$20 for first 1000 rounds
etc.

Try Gunbroker's FFL search, no reason to pay more than $20 for the transfer. ShootSoCal in Fullerton is $15 for up to 3,000 rounds.
