    Lost gun while moving

    Hello all,

I can't believe this happen to me. I was in the process of moving to a different state and notice I was missing one of my handguns. I misplaced it and I'm 80% checking all the boxes I still can't find it.

I know while we were packing a lot of things went to the dump and we gave family members our big items. If I can't find it in the remaining boxes since I'm in a different state now what is the process of reporting missing?

Do I need to call the city I lived in before I moved to report it missing? Any advice would be good or helpful.

I'm so upset right now and worried at the same time.

    Thanks once again.

Report it to the LE agency that has jurisdiction over where you lived. [PC 25250(a)]

      Penal Code 25250
      (a) Commencing July 1, 2017, every person shall report the loss or theft of a firearm he or she owns or possesses to a local law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction in which the theft or loss occurred within five days of the time he or she knew or reasonably should have known that the firearm had been stolen or lost.
      (b) Every person who has reported a firearm lost or stolen under subdivision (a) shall notify the local law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction in which the theft or loss occurred within five days if the firearm is subsequently recovered by the person.
      (c) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), a person shall not be required to report the loss or theft of a firearm that is an antique firearm within the meaning of subdivision (c) of Section 16170.

      Penal Code 25270
Every person reporting a lost or stolen firearm pursuant to Section 25250 shall report the make, model, and serial number of the firearm, if known by the person, and any additional relevant information required by the local law enforcement agency taking the report.

Yeah I thought I lost a rifle once. Could not figure out how as I had not taken it anywhere. Found it after a few weeks in a rifle sock under a pile of laundry. Hope it turns up. Probably best to report it, you can always notify them it has been found.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

You're now on record for the loss and the time clock is ticking. Also, you might want to 100% check all of the boxes....

Not on the clock until he has checked everywhere. Right now I'd call it misplaced. If it's not in one of the remaining boxes then It would be lost and reportable.

Sorry to hear this but, I can't for the life of me understand how a responsible gun owner can allow this to happen!

As5hat reply. Guess you live in a very small world with the number of guns you own can be counted on one hand...

I had this happen last year.
Recheck places. It turned out that two pistols were put in one case.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.
