    50 caliber bea wolf sp?

    Today while listening to Sebastian Gorda on 870 am. A caller asked about building a 50 be wolf and Mr Gorda said he has one and they talked about how powerful it is and different barrel lengths. Ive never heard of it .

    Does anyone know about this gun or own one ?
    Thanx

        Only if you reload....it's sold over the counter from multiple sources. Expensive tho, but what's not?

        I have an AA Beo. Cool rifle.

          correction; you'll "want" to reload it!

            I have a Beowulf as well and really enjoy it. That said, it might not be the best overall choice in big bore ARs depending on what you want from it. They all perform more or less the same. If I was buying today I'd probably go .458 SoCom,then .450 Bushmaster then .50 Beowulf. SOCOM uses rifle bullets, not pistol. .450B has pretty good ammo availability.

              .458SOCOM = uses .45/70 bullets.
              .450Bushmaster = uses .45 Colt bullets.
              .50Beowulf = uses .500 S&W Magnum bullets.

                JA308, .50 Beowulf makes a big hole, thumps your shoulder, and is a lot of fun, but it is a short-range weapon (after about 100 yards it is more of a mortar) and as has been mentioned, it helps if you reload. If you do re-load get a case gauge it is the easiest way to check proper taper; not enough and it won't chamber.

                  Thank You and everyone who added to my knowledge of this new cartridge.

                  That said it would appear the caller and host of the Sebastian Gorda program were engaging in hyperbole at best.
                  One comment was" it can shoot through an engine block" ! Maybe true of a lawn mower engine block, but not what most of us would think of when hearing that statement.

                    From my reading, there are methods of mitigating the shoulder thumping.

                    Unfortunately, the best reported method is no longer available; King Armory muzzle break.

                    Another is recoil "buster" is GL-Shock-CP - FAB Shock Absorbing Butt Stock. Not cheap and maybe questionable legality in Calif.

                      My 458S uses tromix barrel and bolt, with tromix 4 port muzzle device and gl shock stock and it’s fine to shoot from a recoil standpoint.

                      Great projectile selection also. Cast projo all the way to Barnes ttsx hunting projo.

                      I’m using a 3.5x acog for durability reasons and it’s super fun combo

                        I can confirm that wild boar hate all three of these bullets.

                          I bought the BCA 12.7x42 upper to throw on my Springfield Saint Victor set up. Couldn't take more than 16 rounds before it hurt and I'm a 82ct slug kind of guy. I upgraded to a H3 buffer and added the thicker Magpul fixed stock pad and now it kicks like any other 556 round. Added benefit is that 556 now kicks like my 22lr rifles and have no issues cycling. I bought all the components to reload so I'm a happy camper at the moment

                            I use a hydraulic buffer and an Ace Skeleton entry length with a thick pad and it's fine. Not super fun off a bench, but it won't beat you to death or anything. My upper has the old Alexander Arms pin on brake.

                              Mine has the Kings brake, makes a cool pair of fireballs when fired. Does a decent job mitigating recoil, feels about like a 12 gauge shotgun from a semi-auto.

                              Shoots out to 200 yards easily, probably a bit further in the hands of a good shooter.

                              I use a Millet DMS2 1-6x scope, works well enough. The barrel looks like a piece of 3/4" black iron pipe. It's a cool gun.
