Case Club foam material OK for fine blued guns?

I recently picked up one of these 15 pistol Case Club lockers. While it seems like the best option to organize my pistols, I have concerns about the foam it contains, its not abrasive though not exactly soft either, somewhat rough.

I have both a S&W 586 and a Colt MK IV which I plan to store inside of his case. Should I have any concerns about the foam scratching or wearing on the finishes of older blued firearms?

Closed cell foam stores less moisture than open cell foam. But I wouldn't store guns long term in either. If you must store guns in there, I would pull the foam out, get some Bore Stores and put the guns in those and then into the case. A can of desiccant couldn't hurt either.

That is a transport case - short term.

        Long term
        Safe

gun companies often wrap their guns in a plastic bag then in the foam

shoving it in and out for years may cause wear much like rubbing something with a mr clean magic eraser

Thanks for the responses, my concern is not with moisture being trapped in the case, it includes several silica inserts to help avoid this.

Particularly I'd like to know what effect the foam will have whether it be scratching or affecting otherwise the finish on my older blued firearms, especially my Colt 1911.

The foam in of and by itself does not scratch.

I had a Case Club insert with that material. I would not store a blued gun in it unless the gun was first in a silicone sock as suggested above.

+1 to this, probably hold 5 or 10 more guns in there too.

FYI; I purchased an M&P 40 with a rusted slide from a guy that left the gun in that kind of foam case !

Personally, no foam gets around my guns unless the gun itself is in a cloth sock/sack or wrap, usually oiled, even short term. (Unless it's one of my carry or beaters, a range rat, or I simply don't care about the finish. It happens.)

As for being closed cell foam: it's not the foam that will scratch, but the grit that gets between the foam's impermeable surface and the gun's surface itself.

Think of it like what you feel, even hear, while walking over sand on a marble floor versus sand on carpeting. And even the slighest pressured movement on that sand over the marble floor will cause an abrasive reaction. Just think of it in a wsy that you should store your gun in anything touch it's surface that you wouldn't also feel comfortable using to wipe its surface to clean it.

Perfectly fine though for MAADI Helwans, Egyptian Hakims, Egyptian Rasheeds, Egyptian FN-49s, any AK47s/AKMs... and Glocks. I think sand is the recommended lubricant on these.

Sand, sand everywhere and not a grain to eat. Hey - wake up Ms. Struthers, she's on !

That particular foam is polyethylene; it's pretty benign as far as corrosion goes (in and of itself.) It doesn't really hold moisture. Grit can be a problem, however, as can moisture trapped in the case (not in the foam, per se.)
