    ACW for Colt GCNM

My son in Arizona said that he is coming for a visit next week, and is going to bring me a surprise. I pestered him into telling me what it is, and he finally relented, and said that he is gifting me an unfired Colt Gold Cup National Match, manufactured in 1991. To date, I have had a Springfield Loaded, Springfield Pro, Kobra Carry, and DW Vigil CCO in 9mm. I no longer have the Springfields, and took the money I made selling the Pro to purchase the Kobra, which I really love.
This will be the only full-sized 1911 I own, which is kind of cool, but I'm thinking of selling the Colt to buy an Alchemy Quantico in 9mm, which I have wanted for a long time. I could just keep the Colt and buy the Quantico, but the thought of having over a $10,00 in 1911's does not seem like something I want to do.
What do you guys think, should I just keep the Colt, or sell it to finance the Quantico? Besides the caliber, are the differences between the two enough to justify selling the Colt?

Your son gives you an expensive hard-to-find gun and you want to sell it?

You better check your living will and take him off the pull-the-plug list.

The guns I've gotten from family will never be sold. The 10/22 and 870 20g my dad bought with me when I was 12 and the chinese sks from my now deceased grandfather are some of my most treasured possessions.

Over the years, my son and I have traded, gifted, sold each other over 30 firearms. This one he received from his former father-in-law as payment for some security he provided. As I pretty much pay his child support for him, he will occasionally repay me in firearms. I have no problem selling what I don’t need or what.

You need at least 1 full sized 1911. So other gun guys know your straight.

Because of Federal laws, since the transfer is between residents of different States, the handgun must be transferred through a FFL dealer in the recipient's State of residence and failure to utilize a FFL dealer equates to a Federal felony for everyone involved with the transfer. There is no intra-familial or gift exemption to the Federal laws.

This means your son needs to gift firearms to you through a CA FFL dealer, who will then transfer (4473/DROS/10 day wait/1 in 30 day wait) the firearm to you and, in turn, you need to gift firearms to your son through an AZ FFL dealer, who will then transfer (4473/NICS) them to him.

You should have him "gift" you some CZ's and small Glocks that will fetch more than that Colt on an off roster flip.

Usually the things he gifts me are firearms he takes in as trade for his services, so I can’t be picky. Sometimes I get lucky.

I guess I should have mentioned that, until recently, I had a home-based FFL business. All guns were legally transferred. This one will be, too.

Not sure why these guys feel the need to bother posting in every thread out there that you need to follow the laws of the land you're living in, maybe it scratches an uber-compliance itch for them or something.

It's to pre-emptively answer the inevitable flood of PMs from new members asking if it's legal to "just go to state XYZ and buy a gun from my buddy or can my buddy from state XYZ come to CA and just give me a gun".
^This typically happens whenever some posts about out-of-state intra-familial gift transfers or posts about what they got from a transfer from someone from another state.
